Isabelle De Marigny's mother died in childbirth, but her father never blamed her for it. As his beloved daughter grew, more and more of her mother started to shine through, which only made him love her more.
She lived in a large house with only her father and their three servants for all of her childhood, but she never wished for more company, for her father doted on her like a princess up in the Harcourt castle and taught her to see the best in every situation. Though, she didn't wish for more friends, her greatest wish in the world was for a mother of her own.
That's why when the day her father came home with a sharp-looking woman and her two daughters, Isabelle accepted them immediately into her family and tried to be her best self for them. Finally, she had a real mother and real sisters. When her father went away across the sea for work, as he did often, and she was left alone with her step family, Isabelle did all she could to please them and gain their favor.
Such eagerness to please, however, can easily mutate into fault and neglect of one's well-being.
