𝓘 came ashore next to a floating McDonald's. a block away, every emergency vehicle in St. Louis was surrounding the arch. police helicopters circled overhead. The crowd of onlookers reminded me of times square on new years eve.
"hi" I waved my hands at the sight of annabeth, luke, grover and percy, who didn't seem to look poisoned by the chimeras stinger anymore. they ran towards me as I apologize "i'm sorry for shoving you in the stairwell"
"even hearing myself say that sounds really bad. but I knew you wouldn't really agree, and there wasn't enough time—" I was cut off by luke pulling me in a hug, I made a confused look, hugging him back
"you're not as dead as we thought you'd be" percy laughs
"so... what happened?" grover asks curious of how things occurred as luke pulled away
"great question!" I exaggerate
"short version of my explanation, we need to go to santa monica" I say smiling
"what, like now?" he raises his brows as I nod in response "poseidon's going to meet me there. he's going to help us." I explained
"okay, just one problem with this plan. the police think that we crashed an amtrak train and then did that." he motioned towards the arch
"s-so does that mean we're going to have to walk our way to santa monica? since the cops are after us?" I raised a brow
"pretty much..." luke nodded
we wandered through downtown for about half an hour. the air was dry and hot, which felt weird after the humidity of st. louis. everywhere we turned, the rocky mountains seemed to be staring at me, like a tidal wave about to crash into the city.
"how are we so sure hades has the master bolt?" I started "about zero percent" percy replied, making luke frown
"ever since the river, I have the feeling I have to take things more seriously than I did before" I yapped "at first, this quest was just a part of my death wish"
the others let me keep talking until we heard a motorcycle engine revving "car" grover alerted "that's not a car, it's a bike. just let it pass. come on." luke claims
"I saw the fates" annabeth said out of nowhere "what?" luke furrowed his eyebrows "back at the arch, I saw the three fates and I saw atropos cut a piece of thread" she explains
