She was in his debt. There's nothing she could do, but play along with whatever he had in mind...

Eight years ago

A boy and girl holding hands. Typical childhood romance, two seven year olds so happy with each other they vowed many things they would be undone later.

Until the man came.

He bared a knife, twelve inches long, and his job was to hunt down innocent children to be delivered to an auction.

He saw the two kids frolicking in the grass, and chuckled lightly to himself.

Little did he know the little boy could sense him from there.

"Y/N! Let's go into town and get ice cream!"
The girl yawned. She couldn't help but find this boy... unamusing.

"Sure..."

The boy frowned at her annoyance, but vowed he would put a stop to it. And that man.

On the outskirts of the town, there lay the rural part. No one was seen hanging out there because of its horrible smell.

"Hardin... why are we going this way?? It stinkssss." The girl whined.

"It's... safe. You'll be alright." There was an unusual glint to Hardin's eyes, and the way he smiled manically. A shiver went down Y/N's spine. But she remained quiet, and let Hardin pull her by the hand into the alleyway.

It was easy. Too easy.
It was only a little boy, but the man couldn't help but feel disorientated.
"Y/N... wait here a sec, I'll be right back."
Great, he left the girl. It'll be easier since he's gone.

He approached her, reasonably at first, but quickened into a run.
The girl screamed. A man had been gripping her shoulders tightly until he suddenly collapsed, blood trickling from the a crater in the back of his head.

He slumped dead.

"Hardin....?"

"It's alright Y/N. We're safe." Even though she flinched when she looked at him, Hardin was still the same little boy she knew. The one that always tried to make her laugh. The one that scared the bad things away. A warm feeling expanded in her chest.

"Hardin, Hardin you saved me!" Hardin had been waiting for a genuine smile for ages. Years, even. And all he had to do was kill people who tried to touch her?

A pang twinged in him when he heard the sirens coming. The ambulance pried the dead body off Y/N's shivering figure, while Hardin explained what happened.

"I'm Officer Pedro, could you tell us a brief... well yeah... of what happened?" Hardin couldn't help but think this guy was an idiot.

"I swear officer, he was charging at her. I didn't know what to do! Please, please, ya gotta believe me, he was tryna kill us! Then this guy ran up from behind and bashed his head! He ran when he heard the sirens, and I kept hugging Y/N to protect her!"

"We can confirm that, son. Good for saying still. That man was trying to sell you for... well, you don't wanna know, kid.
C'mon, I'll send you and the girl home with you."

His eyes fluttered with desire. "Home with... Y/N? My home with Y/N..."

The officer felt nauseous listening to the boy, so merely patted him on the head mumbling, "Sure kid, Sure, let's get you go home with Y/N."

He ushered the kids into the vehicle and shut the door.
"Hardin?" His grip on her hands tightened.
"Yes?"
"Why did you lie? There was no other guy."

Hardin felt a wave of anger, digging his finger nails into her skin. She yelped.
"I... I did it to protect you! Y/N, you don't understand... HE WAS TRYING TO KILL YOU."

Tears welled in her eyes.
"Hardin...."

He whispered, plastering a seductive smile on his face. "You owe me."

"I owe you... so much." He flushed at her words, pulling her into a hug.

He stroked her hair, while she trembled in fear.
"And it's easy."

"What?"

"Just stay by my side."

And.

That's.

What.

She.

Did.
