"What just happened? He was looking right at our faces. How could he not notice us? Did the great spirits of the forest save us?" Michael whispered to Gemma.

"Maybe they did," Gemma replied softly.

After a while, Michael cautiously emerged from their hiding spot and surveyed the area. His heart sank as he witnessed the devastation of the forest, with the lifeless bodies of their fellow Fost scattered across the ground.

Quickly returning to Gemma, he suggested they wait at the border of their territory along the great river

Quickly returning to Gemma, he suggested they wait at the border of their territory along the great river.

But Gemma refused. She insisted on returning to the village to search for her little sister. Michael disagreed, fearing it was too dangerous. Their disagreement was abruptly interrupted by a deafening sound that echoed through the forest.

Looking up, they saw massive spaceships with smaller ones flying over the treetops towards their village. It appeared out of nowhere, leaving them stunned by the sight of such advanced technology.

Soon the smaller spaceships shined their lights piercing through the forest trees as they searched for survivors. Without warning, beams of light shot from these smaller spacecraft, setting the rest of the forest below on fire.

Grabbing Gemma, Michael raced deeper into the forest as flames licked at their heels. Gemma wanted to argue, but the sight of her village and forest engulfed in flames silenced her in shock.

After running for what seemed like an eternity, Michael led Gemma to a cave where they sought refuge. Inside, Gemma noticed animal bones scattered about and questioned Michael about their safety.

Michael explained that the cave belonged to a Scor, a fearsome creature resembling a large, thin wolf walking on two feet

Michael explained that the cave belonged to a Scor, a fearsome creature resembling a large, thin wolf walking on two feet. Scor were solitary hunters known for their ferocity and nocturnal habits. They rarely ventured near Fost villages, preferring to hunt deep in the forest.

"Why was this Scor so close to our village? Could it be the one that killed my father?" Gemma inquired.

"Yes, that was the one. But it's dead now. I witnessed its demise. The grand leader saw it as an opportunity to bring the young males along for their hunt to learn how to hunt a Scor," Michael replied somberly, tears welling in his eyes as he spoke of his father.

Curious, Gemma pressed Michael for details about the moment of the attack on their village. He recounted waking to a deafening explosion. His father bravely tried to investigate outside but was shot at the entrance. His mother rushed to aid him but was also gunned down before his eyes at the entrance.

In a desperate attempt to save his sister, Michael fled through the backdoor, only to be thrown by an explosion that instantly killed his little sister. After he regained consciousness, he witnessed the chaos as soldiers descended upon the village, their weapons wreaking havoc on their once peaceful village.

He then fled towards the thick forest, only to notice a soldier standing over Gemma shortly after, with a gun pointed towards her.

As Michael recounted the story to Gemma, he noticed her gradually slipping into a state of shock or trance.

"Gemma, are you okay?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

Gemma trembled violently, murmuring a few words about her father. Michael desperately tried to shake her out of it, but the words came out of her mouth in a choked gasp, nearly suffocating her. After a dangerous moment, she snapped back to reality and uttered, " The Great leader murdered my father!"
