Akiko has tattoos of butterflies with names on her back. Each one of them represents a family member. The name of the butterfly is what family member it represents. She started with two butterflies one for herself and one for her aunt Maki. When she got married she added one for Kōyō. Once they started having kids more butterflies were added. This has become a tradition to add a butterfly when there's a new family member added.
