Because Nico did mostly all of Thanatos's paperwork. He blessed Nico with Black Shadow wings that comes out of his black wings tattoo and can turn back in to the tattoo. The Black Shadow wings can go through his clothes so he doesn't have to rip his clothes.
Nico's shadow wings are protected by Thanatos so Zeus can't hurt him while he is using his wings.
