Angy couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the sheer size and opulence of Alex's house, or rather, his parents' mansion. As Maria guided her through the halls, Angy found herself marveling at the exquisite décor and luxurious furnishings. The grandeur of it all was enough to make her feel like she was in a different world.

Initially hesitant to accept Alex's parents' offer of accommodation, Angy had been torn between gratitude and a reluctance to impose. However, faced with the stark reality of her situation, she had little choice but to acquiesce. Carl, Alex's father, had presented her with two options: stay with them temporarily or involve the authorities. Reluctant to involve the police and burdened by the weight of her circumstances, Angy had ultimately chosen the former.

Now, as she walked through the halls of the mansion, Angy couldn't shake the feeling of being out of place. Despite the warmth and hospitality extended to her by Alex's family, she couldn't help but feel like an intruder in their world of privilege and comfort. Yet, for the time being, this mansion would be her refuge, a temporary sanctuary until she could find a way forward. It was a daunting prospect, but for now, it was her only option.

“Ella!”

Ella jolted in her seat, startled by the sudden yell of her name. Turning around to see the culprit with her hand on her chest, she gaped. She should have known. “Andrew! What on earth is wrong with you?! I’ve warned you to stop doing that”.

“That look!” Andrew clapped his hands with mischief pulling in his eyes and a cheeky grin dancing on his lips. “That look right there is what I always look forward to ”. He snickered.

Ella scoffed in exasperation and threw a nearby cushion at him but he caught it. “You’ll soon be banned from entering this house”.

“I know you’ll miss me, Ella. You always do and the name’s Drew thank you very much” Drew said, with a mocking smile.

“Ella.” A male voice called from behind Drew.

Ella craned her neck to see who it was this time. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw him step out from where he’d stood behind Drew. “Kyle”.

Andrew and Kyle are Alex’s childhood friends. The trio have been together for over a decade that they’ve grown into a relationship that is a level higher than your basic close-friend relationships.

Andrew was the funny one of the group. He’s known to be a pert. He’s often cheeky, mischievous and occasionally petulant which always seemed to irritate the boys sometimes.

Kyle on the other hand is rather calm and even-minded. Although, he was more laid back than the others, Kyle’s unique contrasting personality was his coldness. Occasionally, his indifference was a danger zone for others. This sometimes made him seem unapproachable but in reality, he was nice to those close to him.

“How are you?” Kyle asked with a small smile on his face, walking towards the nearest couch.

“Apparently, her heart almost jumped right out of her ribs. I doubt she’s fine.” Drew wiggled his brows at Ella.

Ella rolled her eyes at Drew’s statement but ignored him nonetheless. “I’m fine, Kyle. Thanks for asking like a civilized person would”. She didn’t have to look at Drew, he already knew her last statement was meant for him.

“Are you sure?” Kyle raised a brow.
Taking a proper look at Ella, Drew was suddenly ridden of his mischief.

“You don’t look like you’re fine.” He gestured to her laptop and the files around her.

Ella's expression remained composed despite the urgency in her voice. "If you consider my packed schedule with surgeries, meetings, and appointments, you might be correct. I have numerous tasks to prepare for in a limited timeframe. However, rest assured that I am fully capable of managing them all."
