THE PEN SLID ACROSS THE PAPER, his coarse hand moving against the parchment as he wrote. His teeth constantly bit against his lip as his eyebrows were furrows, his posture horrid - humanlike. It was strange for the man, he was constantly always referenced to as the "perfect vampire", yet it was moments like these that made him doubt the words of those around him. Yet he would not falter, he would be deemed unworthy of his role inside of the coven.

The rain flung itself onto the window as it hammered down onto the ancient walls of the atavistic building. The slight acidity of the rain should have caused the stone to wear away, yet thanks to certain gifts, the castle was preserved perfectly.

He leant back, yet only for a moment as he studied what he had written on the piece of paper, blinking slightly at the writing, yet his moment of silence as he studied was interrupted by a harsh rap sounded on the wooden door to the office, a quite small man with ashy blonde hair hurried inside shortly after, his face contorted into one of pure rage.

ARO SIGHED CONTENTLY AS HE SAT IN FRONT OF THE CRACKLING FIRE, accompanied by his brothers and his mate, his seemingly dead heart hummed comfortably, as if it were able to become alive again when he was around the three he cared about the most.

Katherine lay sleeping, sprawled across their laps as the clock ticked on the wall and the sky twinkled with stars, scattered across the dark canvas.

It was a beautiful scene, almost like one out of a fairytale; some say that if something lasts forever, it will grow boring and tiring after a while, yet each brother felt the same way - this was the most perfect moment in time so far.

Yet a haunting threat loomed over them, the Romanians were growing stronger and more unpredictable, especially with a vampire that had an extremely peculiar gift that could take down Felix in seconds.

A polite knock at the door caught their attention, yet each of them quickly glanced to the brunette, checking if had woken her, thankfully, she still lay sleeping. Jane entered the room and bowed, in her gloved hand was an envelope, neat writing etched upon the paper as she handed it to Caius as he was the closest to the door.

He opened it hastily as Jane exited quietly, besides the satisfying clicking of her heels against the wood, his eyes scanned the writing and they grew wider by the second as his eyes landed further down the page. A few words caught his attention so much that he couldn't help but mutter it aloud.

'What a pity if we would succeed at targeting your delicately dear mate, what a sight to see her quite vulnerable, lovely, breathing body become paler as her heart ceases to beat...' His shaky voice trailed off in disbelief the words were unbelievable to the three as they each felt themselves freeze at the thought.

Aro soon unfroze and snatched the paper out of his brother's vice grasp. Scanning over the words himself, over, and over, and over again.

He folded it up abruptly and tucked it into his pocket hastily, moving Katherine's feet off of his lap gingerly, before rushing off, no doubt to hollered orders at the guard, the beast demanding a result in their favour as the tensions of the war scratched at the beast's cell inside of Aro.

Marcus still sat, staring at the fire as he never blinked, his eyes seemingly frozen in a trance. His thoughts dancing around his mind hauntingly as he saw the possibilities, this caused an abrupt tug on his bond to Katherine, causing her face to scrunch up as she awoke from her slumber, blinking slowly as her eyes adjusted to the fire's glowing embers that illuminated the room.

She lifted herself up slowly, Marcus assisting her as he realised that he had disturbed her, she smiled at him comfortingly, 'Thank you, but I'm sure I'm capable of sitting up.' She giggled 'What's the matter? I felt the tug.' Her face grew into a frown as he looked away from her eyes, she felt Caius's hand brush against her leg absentmindedly, he seemed to be in his own world, yet he was brewing up plans, as he reread the letter in his mind, thinking of all the possibilities.

'Nothing, amore, just paranoid thoughts.' He smiled assuringly at her as he pressed his lips against her cheek, she nodded slowly, not believing him, but didn't wish to push him out of his boundaries.

'Where'd Aro wander off to?' She asked innocently, Caius turned his head towards her, breaking out of whatever world he had wandered off to himself, 'Has he gone to begin a trial?' She asked, her voice seemed miffed, 'He knows he shouldn't do it on his own.' She rolled her eyes, she tried swinging her legs off of Caius's lap, yet he frowned at her, suddenly holding them in place with a quick movement of his hand.

'No, cara mia. He has simply gone off to respond to one of our friends in a coven located in Washington.' The blonde informed her, he felt guilty for the lie that slipped off of his tongue, he knew that Aro had gone off to give orders about the upcoming war, even without a gift, he knew how people acted and what their intentions were by how they appeared, 'Don't worry about him, he'll be back shortly.' He waved it off, 'Come, why don't we all head down to the kitchens? We can attempt a recipe of some kind if you're do adamant about it.' He chuckled as her eyes lit up.

Recently, Katherine had found a love for baking and cooking, she had pestered one of the Kings to do it, yet they cringed when they found out how messy it would end up being. Marcus had been bribed into making a Victoria Sponge once, yet it seemed that it wasn't so much a sponge, more like a rag; the cake had somehow crumbled to bits as they attempted to take it out of the tin. The fondness of the memory caused Katherine to softly smile to herself even more as she continued to live in it.

After wondering what to do with the cake, they had left it on a stool in the corner of the kitchen that none of them were using, Caius and Aro had soon walked in, intrigued and eager to see the results, guessing the two had failed, Aro had gone to sit at a seat on the other side of his mate and without looking, Caius had sat himself down...

On the stool.

The memory had her giggling softly, yet as she came out of her own little world, she was met with four eyes staring adoringly at her, yet Caius spoke first.

'What is it you find so funny, amore?'

'Nothing.' She played it off, yet she couldn't help but giggle again as she replayed the moment in her mind.

Marcus lowered his head to her ear and whispered, 'Was it the cake incident?' He gave an educated guess, knowing it had the three of them howling in laughter at Caius.

The man in question had a permanent scowl plastered on his face for the rest of the day, until Katherine had ended up showering him in affection, promising that she'd buy him another pair of trousers, making him bark with his own laughter, 'With what money?' He had said, knowing she didn't have any, to which her face glowed bright red as she hid her face in his chest, yet she didn't lift her head, still horribly embarrassed at her stupidity, 'Don't worry, amore, you can buy me another pair.' He rolled his eyes playfully as he whipped out a credit card. out of his suit pocket, placing it in her hand, she soon retreated from his chest, hugging his tight as she beamed brightly at the blonde.
