Genre: Kind of like soft-rock, with a hint of pop. The whole vibe of this song is kind of like the lyricism of folkmore ( or everlore, whatever you wish to call it ). The sounds of rock mixed with the poppy synths of Lover and 1989. Sorry for ranting, I just wanted to explain what the genre was!
This whole song totally gives 'august' or 'Foolish One' vibes with the personality of being delusional and just wanting to close your eyes and not worry about what's going to happen even if you know the whole thing will fall apart. Kind of like all of Taylor's songs about Harry, knowing their relationship will end up bad and they'll fall out of place.
Anyway, I bet you want to read the song already, so I'm going to stop ranting, and let's continue on with the song! I hope you enjoy 🤪💗
1ST VERSE:
Closed my eyes, you were my dream
Thought you were the missing piece
But it seems it was all just make-believe
I built a castle in the sky
But it crumbled with your goodbye
I was blinded by my own desire
PRE-CHORUS:
But now I see, it was all just a dream
Lost in a never-ending maze
Unable to grasp myself out of this haze
CHORUS:
I was lost in delusion
Thought you and I were meant to be
But I was just chasing an illusion
Like two trains, we had a collision
2ND VERSE:
Thought you were the one I've been waiting for
But I was just chasing a mirage
My heart was sure, but my mind was unclear
I ignored all the warning signs
And now I'm left with tears in my eyes
Realizing you were never truly mine
PRE-CHORUS:
But now I see, it was all just a dream
Lost in a never-ending maze
Unable to grasp myself out of this haze
CHORUS:
I was lost in delusion
Thought you and I were meant to be
But I was just chasing an illusion
Like two trains, we had a collision
BRIDGE:
Only fools fall in love
They all make it a big deal
You're my Achilles' heel
Born to die, living for the thrill of it all
My heart said, "It's time to brawl."
Fought for my life, but what can I say?
Life isn't fair-play
PRE-CHORUS:
But now I see, it was all just a dream
Lost in a never-ending maze
Unable to grasp myself out of this haze
CHORUS:
I was lost in delusion
Thought you and I were meant to be
But I was just chasing an illusion
Like two trains, we had a collision
OUTRO:
Lost in delusion, you can't see the future
Who knew love could be such a loser?
Everything from my past is gone now
Faded like a shadow
Lost in delusion
This is probably one of the most melodramatic, delusional songs I've ever written; like a couple of similar songs on Echoing Light 🤭🩷
I will say, as I mentioned earlier, this song is extremely similar to all of Taylor's delusional songs ( August, Foolish One, etc,.) but there are also a lot of other delusional songs Taylor has written. Like when she explicitly refers to "delusion" in RWYLM ( such a bop, that's why it's in the moodboard ).
But it's practically the same thing over and over; ending up with me losing my crushes or past loves without any source of a goodbye. It's silly, but then again, who doesn't love being melodramatic? 🤪💕
'Still Into You' by Paramore contributes as well. Paramore did say it was a love song, but the lyrics definitely scream delusion. 'supernatural' by Ariana is also a perfect way to describe this song! ☁️💖
There are a lot of songs that describe the lyrics and overall vibe of this song, probably because, well, delusion is a felt feeling that everyone's probably felt at some point in their lives, which I've felt more times than I can count 🙈💗
+ I'm in a healthy, content relationship right now, I don't know why I would feel delusion? That's why these songs I've described are a big inspiration 🥹❤️🩹
Anyway, I've talked too much already. I hope you enjoyed 'Lost In Delusion' on my new songbook, Treasure!
