I had posted this question ages ago, but recently accidentally deleted it because of site lag, brief tantrum and depression aside, I'm back a week or two later to rewrite my story searching inquiry.
Ages ago I read a sci-fi story that starts with a scientist stumbling across an anomalous sort of pinhole in spacetime, a gap with a readable energy signature that can be matched and allows for the passage of radio communications through it. Coincidentally an entity on the other side discovers this anomaly at around the same time, and after a long while of trial and error a communication link is established between the beings, eventually developing into a remote audio visual link. I believe from here on out in the story, the perspective constantly shifts between these characters, and time moves rather quickly as well. Their respective scientific communities are informed and once it's ascertained that the rift is stable and isn't going anywhere, the discovery is announced to the public. Of course, for both civilizations this is the greatest scientific breakthroughs in modern history, much time and money are put into it. Primarily a concerted and collaborative effort to see if it's possible to make the tiny rift into a gateway between their parallel realities. Years pass and their dedication bears fruit, a prototype transportation system is in place and has seen success in transporting inert objects including organic matter, albeit very slowly (at this stage it functions in the same manner as a Star Trek transport beam but at the pace of a 3D printer), a romance subplot between the two perspective characters causes one of them to volunteer to be the transporters first sapient test subject, a dangerous gambit to visit the other reality and their lover. Then I think there's a flash-forward to when the gateway infrastructure is far more developed, now resembling wormhole tramways connecting multiple newly discovered realities, all joined together in a new golden age.

Does that synopsis ring a bell to anyone? Is it still around, has it been deleted and lost to the ether, was it even on Wattpad? It's been so long since I read it that I'm beginning to question if it was even on this site.

Randell2023

are you really Soundblaster?

DapperTrapinch

@Randell2023 ?? Sound Bluster? may be a late reply, but no, it says right in the description and at the start of the first chapter that, in short, I am a filthy reposter.
i swear i drafted an explanation to why i stopped posting the comic, no idea where it went but tldr the actual real author started uploading their comic on wattpad a month or so after i did, faster than i could scrounge up screenshots of it from pinterest, so i decided to stop uploading out of respect for their intellectual property

Some things I despise about Wattpad; 1) there's too much good stuff to keep track of and tell apart, I must have nearly a hundred stories saved in my library and only a dozen of them could I recall and summarize with any confidence. 2) how often stories transcend their premise/summary, this is more of a double edged sword than a negative, but so many stories develop far beyond what is initially described in the details blurb, which is great artistically, but makes discovering/rediscovering the story you like a pain in the ass because it no longer does it justice. 3) deleted stories vanish without a trace, which sucks because you'll probably never see it again and you have no leads to discover it elsewhere in case you forgot the title or the author, and I swear it actively simulates dementia when in conjunction with point 1, ideally it should do one better than YouTube, like instead of saying 'unavailable videos have been hidden' it should be something like '________ by______ has been removed by the user/moderation staff' yeah!

Real question, how many of you would be truly upset if I discontinued Shattered Ranks? I can't keep up with the hype for it, my desire to write the story burned out like 2 years ago and I feel like a disingenuous oaf pretending that I still care. it exists, that's all I have to say about it now.
I have no plans for the story going forward, no ideas, zilch. I naively volunteered to write a sequel because I was so smitten with the original story of Ravages Return for a while after I read it, the ideas I did have for such a sequel were laughably short-sighted and dispersed almost immediately.
the fact of the matter is I regret taking that responsibility and wish to stop now, I have mishandled someone else's intellectual property, the shine has faded, and I have nothing left to offer, I have let you down.

I would be sad, but your well-being come first, so just don’t force yourself to make books that burn you out.

Yes I still exist, sorry its been a few months (maybe a year) since i was last majorly active, i recently posted a chunk of a chapter out of desperation, (Assault pt 1) i had not done any writing for ages, and i just grabbed the most complete chunk i could find and posted it. in general i feel really awful about how ive handled Shattered Ranks, i adopted the Ravages REturn sequel project from the original author before they went awol but i dont think ive kept the spirit of the original story or done it justice in any way, i get that imfamous inferiority complex that plauges authors, its a vicious cycle that saps all my creativity,
in other more lighthearted news i have written what is possibly my best work to date, but i cant show it to any of you because it has massive earthshaking spoilers and holds no relevance to any of my other works, yet, i plan to put it somewhere in Not So Fast book 2, speaking of which I may change the title of that in the future, it just doesnt hit the way i want it to, there are also some timeline dilemas that realy bother me like im fairly sure i want Crossflares first real mission to be in Toxicity, where he provides support for bulkhead and proves himself with a trial by fire, but ive already included smokescreen who doesnt show up until several episodes later, so should i revise my existing chapters and bring smokescreen in later, or should i just shrug it off and mangle the timeline a bit, thats an actual question by the way. i will have to stretch the timeline to a certain degree anyway so book 2 can happen, the episode Deadlock most likely will not occur btw, you'll still get an epic fight scene tho.
i have plans for the far future of When it all comes crashing down, friggin space colony convoy and boston dynamic robots, mil-spec Furrion exosuit, astrotrain, my brain does lots of wiedr shit i have so many story fragments where i just shoehorned something i like into the tfp universe, like battle force 5 or bionicle

just as a note to all my followers, while I haven't been very active with posting as of late I will be going completely silent for the next 2 weeks as I am leaving with family on Thursday to visit relatives in lower Michigan, they probably wouldn't let me bring a whole square foot of MacBook let alone give the wifi password, but I'm looking forward to the slew of news I will get upon my return to Wattpad next year

My Pinterest account has been suspended, and with it a year and a half of effort, including all my artwork, I have been given no warning, no chance to appeal, and no actual reason as to why it happened, but I'll wager that its because the bots suck and can't tell the difference between public and private stuff.
And this all wouldn't be quite so bad if my backup folders hadn't offed themselves the day before.
