In the next instant, my bow was in my hands. My heart pounded in my ears, like the beat of a war drum, while I knocked an arrow and pointed it at the figure that stumbled out from behind a tree.

"Don't panic. You need to keep your wits about you," I said, with a smile of encouragement that I did not feel.

If river serpents could smile, this one did, before receding back into the river, dragging me into the deep cold water with it.
          	———————————————————————

"No, I don't think even my father would be dense enough to stick it in a fairy," I replied dryly before I could wrangle my mouth.

“Something's wrong with this place. Can't you feel it? Even the trees are screaming." Her eyes drifted towards the forest and lost focus.

          	——————————————————————

If everything about the fair-haired male screamed methodical and graceful-everything about his auburn friend screamed unruliness and power. His browned skin told of countless days spent under a golden sun. He towered over the other fairy beside him by several inches, even though the other male was by no means short. Powerful muscles rippled across his back, chest, and his bare arms. However, the greatest symbol of his power sat among tussles of auburn hair—a golden crown of interlocking branches gleaming in the fading light.

My newest chapter of Bonds that Burn and Bind is up, here’s a little snippet from it :)

I nodded in agreement. "If they trained you— whatever challenges are killing these girls—I bet you can survive them. Just remember to remain calm and keep your wits about you. Repeat after me. Remain calm and keep your wits about you."

"Remain calm and keep your wits about you," she repeated softly.

"Good," I said, forcing yet another smile to my face, while I patted her shoulder. "Just remember that, and you'll have a chance."

Chapter 3 Part 2 of Bonds that Burn and Bind is up! Here’s a little snippet from it!

“Val," Winnie's voice trembled. She wore a haunted look I witnessed on many men's faces during their first battle—usually, it was also their last.

I inched closer to where she sat and grabbed her hand. “Don't panic. You need to keep your wits about you," I said, with a smile of encouragement that I did not feel.

Winnie nodded, but that haunted look did not leave.

My eyes drifted to the males, studying them in more detail this time.

Hi all, so I am on my journey to get traditionally published and this is my new story, Bonds that Burn and Bind. I'm a mission to get feedback from all you wonderful readers. With this new story(which is the reason I haven’t been updating anything else!) I haven’t felt so passionately about something I’ve written since I was 17 and wrote the first chapter of The Fifth Element (which is a total train wreck of a story but I have since improved my craft). It has completely taken over all my writing time. Below is the synopsis. I will be updating it every Wednesday and Friday!

          Description

Two hundred years ago, the Fae Prince declared a mortal woman would become his queen. All she had to do was cross No-land into Fae land, then pass his tests. But every girl that set foot onto his lands -what remained of them, arrived at their families' doorsteps days later wrapped in a funeral shroud. Naturally, it had been quite some time since the prince's challenge had been attempted, and 19-year-old Valentina Ashewood was not planning on ending this streak until she found herself on the wrong side of this forbidden border. Now Val must try to overcome three mysterious and deadly tests as she comes to terms with a war that she barely survived, a love she was forced to give up, and her budding feelings for the Fae Prince himself. But if she fails, she'll not only lose her life but doom an entire kingdom to a fate worse than death.
