The days leading up to Christmas Eve passed in a blurry haze, much like the fleeting blizzards that overtook and passed through Gotham City.

Between the guilt of what I was about to do, the sudden realization of my exes dark past and how, even after death, he continued to rip away at my sanity, and the fear-plagued excitement of setting Jonathan free, I was a mess

Between the guilt of what I was about to do, the sudden realization of my exes dark past and how, even after death, he continued to rip away at my sanity, and the fear-plagued excitement of setting Jonathan free, I was a mess.

But, through the chaos, I had once again formed a plan. And just like before, timing and execution was crucial in making it work.

Jonathan and I would be fleeing the country...again, but this time we wouldn't be caught. That is, if everything went as planned. I was more than willing to take the risk, though. I had nothing to lose, apart from Jonathan.

So, in the fog-coated purgatory of night and day, when half of the city slept and the other did not, I made the final preparations for all that was to come.

Valuables pawned, gas tank filled, fake passports secured, bags packed, cash hidden...I realized Rhys was right.

I was one of them

I was one of them. I was a criminal.

I woke up exhausted Saturday afternoon. I had fallen asleep around seven that morning, and had woken up around four in the afternoon.

I had offered to work the evening shift on Saturday under the guise that I knew it would be understaffed for Christmas Eve. So, sleepy-eyed and anxious, I got ready and packed everything carefully in my car and headed out towards Arkham.

As I sipped on my coffee and stared out towards the bay while crossing the bridge that connected Gotham City to the Asylum, I realized this would be the last time I made this trip.
