he knew he knew he knew he knew

14 3 12

like a warm summer breeze turned cold,
the chill ran up her neck
as she saw it.

the paper was clutched in his hands,
his eyes scouring the page.
there was no emotion.

line by line, letter by letter.
she dropped her bag on the floor
and stepped forward.

one tear fell down his cheek.
one
tear.
than
another.
and
another.

he looked up, heart broken.
the last puzzle piece fell
in
place.

she opened her mouth,
as if to speak,
but silence won.

"you..... you knew."

he let his actions speak as he walked away.
his shoes were untied.

she looked again, and felt her chest tighten.

and it happened all at once.

she caught on fire.

she didn't scream.

the flame engulfed her body,

blackened flesh

filled the room with

a horrid stench.

he knew. he knew. he knew. he knew.

anyways, first poem of 2024!
