{drew's pov}

drew left his apartment with one person on his mind.

courtney.

after madelyn texted him explaining how dumb he was acting and the fact they've been in this exact same position before, drew knew he had to do something. courtney made him watch endless romcoms with silly love confessions so drew had to do something about the situation.

in the past months, courtney talked about how her favorite flowers were lilacs. so obviously the first place drew had to go was the flower shop a block away from his place. as he rounded the corner, drew saw the clerk closing and locking the door to the store. "excuse me," drew said jogging up to the man.

"sorry, we just closed," he said to drew, finishing up locking the door.

"please man," drew pleaded. "i've fucked things uo with an amazing girl and i need to fix things. i just need one bouquet of lilacs."

"listen buddy," the clerk said with an exasperated tone. when he finally looked at drew, the man's facial expression completely changed. "oh my god. drew starkey. give me one second." the clerk quickly unlocked the door and slipped inside. minutes later he came back out with a lavish bouquet of beautiful lilacs and greenery. "it's on the house."

"oh man, are you sure?" drew asked. when the clerk profusely said yes, drew thanked him and headed for courtney's apartment.

when he got there, the receptionist refused to let him in. no matter how many times he had been here, the old lady still refused to let drew in until courtney buzzed him up. drew reluctantly walked over to the buzzer and repeatedly rang it. he didn't think courtney would let him up because she had said multiple times that she was scared and axe murderer would come to murder her.

his suspicion's were right after five minutes of waiting for courtney to let him up. "miss ruth, please let me up there," drew pleaded for the second time tonight.

"sorry young man, i can't let random people up there. strict rules," the receptionist told him.

"please. look at these flowers. i'm not here to hurt courtney." drew pulled the flowers up to show the receptionist. "death by petal is not a thing."

"sorry sweetheart, i've already let a man up there with flowers."

"who?"

"jake"

{courtney's pov}
theres a slight tw for this part

courtney was sitting on her couch, wine glass in hand, binge watching the newest season of love island. there was a knock on the door which surprised her seen as no one has buzzed all day. the person must have the wrong room. "sorry you must have the wrong room," courtney said as she opened the door.

"i don't think i do." jake was the last person on earth who courtney expected to be at her door. deep down she thought it was drew coming to apologize for everything the past few months but maybe courtney was just delusional.

"no i think you do," courtney said as she tried to shut the door. jake put his foot between the door and the doorframe, preventing it from being shut. "jake," courtnry warned him. "do not even think about coming in here."

all jake did was laugh before pushing the door all the way open. "don't you think it's a bit rude denying me when i show up here with your favorite flowers," jake asked her.

"i don't think it's rude one bit considering you were not invited and i absolutely do not want you here," courtney said to him, taking a few steps back.

something flashed across jake's face. something courtney had never seen before. jake raised the flowers that were in his hand and chucked them at courtney. the bouquet hit courtney's head but it wasn't the most painful thing ever. she was thankful for that. thankful he didn't stoop so low as to hit her.

thankful until jake closed the gap between the two and slapped courtney across the face. hard. the force of the hit sent courtney to the ground with a throbbing eye. "you are an ungrateful little bitch. can't even accept flowers when given to you by someone who loves you," jake spat in her face. now that he was close to her, courtney could smell the booze and hear the slur in his words.

jake turned and walked out of the apartment, not even bothering to slam the door. "fuck you!" courtney screamed at him. or rather the ghost of him.
