I am going to talk about a Malay character in Malaysia especially, that's where I came from. So, in Malaysia we do have three major race, Malay, Chinese and Indian.

1. WHAT DO MALAY LOOK LIKE?

It's hard to tell how Malay looks like because nowadays a lot of Malay has been migrate to other country and get married there and get multiracial children.

For myself; I have tanned skin and slanted eyes. Just like an Indian with Chinese eyes.

But we do wear our traditional clothes, Baju Kurung for female and Baju Melayu for male, you can google it up late. Other races in Malaysia do wear Baju Kurung and Baju Melayu too but the majority is Malay.

Need to be added to account is that we don't the traditional clothes every single time. We do wear like normal people do. T-shirt and jeans.

Malays are typically portrayed to be a polite girl or boy, we are supposed to be polite but not all of us are polite.

2. WHAT WE EAT?

We have our own food like Nasi Lemak, Teh Tarik, Laksa and it's all delicous. We eat all kind of food and of course we are searching for the HALAL one because we are Muslims. We do eat Chinese foods and Indian as well like Capati and Naan. Nyum nyum. We lived in diversity so yeah, we eat other races' foods too.

But Malays in the urban area nowadays are so hipster and only going to hipster cafe and take a hipster photos and post it on Instagram. hahaha

3. MUSLIMS.

Yes, 99.99% Malays in Malaysia is a Muslims. They are a lot of people who is pious and follow the religion, But there is also the one that only Muslim by name.

We do celebrate Eid just like Christian celebrate Christmas.

Traditional parents will put their kids with traditional name, but nowadays parents tend to put up to four or five names! I mean like I do only have two name Hana Mustapa so yeah, that's what nowadays parents do. ha ha

Not all Malays are following the right path of Islam. Islam is perfect but Muslims are not. Nobody is perfect!

4. LANGUAGE AND EDUCATION

We are talking about the urban area and the rural one. If you come to Kuala Lumpur and you can say that the level of proficiency of speaking English is high or excellent. But if you go to somewhere rural like Kodiang, Kedah, their level of profieciency is low. Not all but mostly.

Citizen that live in the big city like can converse in English well. The education in the city is good than in the rural area because they hadn't have enough exposure to the education.

So you can write about a girl from the city and a boy from a village. (typical storyline in Malaysia soap opera)

In Malaysia, you need to finish the education until SPM (Malaysian Certificate of Education) if you want to further your study locally or abroad.

5. OUR SURROUNDING

We mingle with all kind of races. There are some Malays who is racist yet there are some Chinese and Indians who are racists too!

And here in Malaysia, Malays has always been stereotype with 'lazy'. We are lazy, what?! No! Not all of us. Yes, they are some Malay who is very to go to work or study but obviously not all!

So that's all I think of, if there are one of you who wants to write about Malay character, you can DM me :)
