C h a p t e r 1 6

The storm outside had been raging on for hours. It rattled the house startling Avery.

"Hey it's okay come here" Greyson scooped Avery in his arms allowing her to nestle closely to him.

"I don't like when the house shakes like that..." she murmured into his chest.

"I know me either." Greyson planted a soft kiss on the top of her head. A movie was playing on the tv while Callum, Monte, and Adam played a game of poker. Luca was on the couch with Avery and Greyson.

"I know you cheated you fucker!" Monte laughed, he hated how Adam was masterful at this stupid game.

"I'm with Monte you must have literal cards up your sleeve Adam" Callum couldn't help but laugh as well.

Avery left Greyson's warm embrace to join them at the table.

She sat down next to Monte and leaned into his side. He protectively wrapped an arm around her.

"How do you play poker anyways?" She questioned out loud.

Monte gasped "How have you been living in this house for almost five months and not learned poker yet. We've failed her guys we're failures" Monte lightly shook her as he exaggerated his little tangent. She couldn't help but giggle.

"Well teach me then you oaf!" She nudged him slightly and in response he tickled her side.

"Monte if- you- keep- tickling- me- I'LL BE PEE MY PANTS- STOP!" Avery was gasping for air front he continuous laughter as Monte finally ceased his attack.

"Good gosh I thought I was going die!" She put her hand over her forehead and frantically collapsed into Montes lap.  He leaned down and gave her light hearted kiss. Licking her lips after wards.

"Gross!" She exclaimed laughing.

"Hey don't leave yourself so open or I'll attack again" Monte wiggled his fingers in her face and she playfully smacked his hand away.

"Okay can you teach me now!" She jumped up and down in the chair.

Callum collected the cards and started to shuffle the deck.

"So the main goal is to-" he was cut off by a loud bang startling all of them. Avery grabbed onto Monte.

"W-what was that...?" Avery's voice wavered off.

"Adam, Greyson let's go." Callum stood up and they made their way to the back door.

"It came from the stables" Adam told them.

Luca had already gotten up from the couch and made his way to Avery and Monte.

"Let's go upstairs." Luca gently got Avery to her feet and with Monte, guided her up the stairs into Callum's room.

"Fun fact! We have a little hide-y hole! It can fit three whole people in there. This time it's just gonna be you okay?" Avery immediately shook her head no.

"I don't want to be alone... and I'm scared is something bad going to happen... something feels off." Avery looked at Monte and Luca hopefully.

Monte placed each of his hands on her shoulders. "If something bad were to actually happen you'd just get in the way. And that's not because you are weak, it is because you are OUR weakness. Our top priority is keeping you safe and if we know you are then we can focus on the dangerous matters at hand. Please do this for us, I know it's scary to be alone but there's a light and everything in there okay?"

Luca had moved Callum's bed to the side to reveal a rather large square in the wall. He pushed it inwards and turned on a light.

"In you go princess!" Luca guided her in and right before he closed the door he gave her a soft kiss on the lips.
