Corey Atherley

Hello, my name is Corey Atherley and I am from the city of Boston, Massachusetts (USA). I am currently a part time English Instructor. I am also an aspiring writer with years of experience writing suspense fiction which has been my childhood passion. When I was nine years old, I remember writing my first play and from then on, writing became not only a passion, but my identification. Recently, I graduated with a B.A in English and Liberal Arts from a great college in Vermont called Union Institute and University, which taught me to start living my life as a writer and to harness the talent I'm most grateful to be blessed with. 
  To make a long story short, my writing career began at the age of ten when I wrote my first play based on my fourth grade experience. Of course it was too amateur to publish, but just the overall experience of sitting up late at night, laying out my thoughts, fears and big imagination in a notebook was the beginning of a literary journey. From then on, writing became not only a passion, but my identification. Unfortunately as I've gotten older, writing has become a love/hate struggle due to lack of time, commitment, creativity and the inability to put the hardships of life on hold in order to sit down and write. 
  Some of my biggest influences growing up were watching a lot of movies and dramas on television and wondering how the writers could come up with emotionally stirring material. I also watched a lot of soap operas, being intrigued by the tragic, melodramatic and sometimes outlandish story lines and characterizations. Entertained by television, I've learned to entertain myself by writing my own stories- tapping into my own imagination. My favorite movies have always been action films, blaxploitation, mob flicks, and pulp fiction movies because they were a sense of escapism for me.
