CONTEMPORARY FAIRY TALES FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

"If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales." Albert Einstein

These stories are spun around relationships, dark secrets, family karma, and eco-culture. They are not about 'girl meets her prince', or escapes from mundane troubles to a 'happily ever after'.

These fantastic stories don't follow the well-known Disney formula but can still have a happy ending. They cover relationships between parents and children, humans and other species, and the heroic journey of finding oneself and bringing one's unique gift into the world.

Princesses might prefer a widowed woodcutter with a child to a dashing young royal bachelor. They might rescue dragons, or themselves, and they don't need a male counterpart to justify their existence.

Princes don't have to give up their lives and fulfil royal expectations. They might develop their artistic talents instead of becoming a brave knight. An 'evil old owl' doesn't need to be killed to save the young duke. Instead, the bird may be recognised as an important messenger and released from its spell.

Writing fairy tales in contemporary language has been my lifelong dream. I've been writing for over 20 years, and most books I've produced are in the 'narrative non-fiction' genre. This has helped practice my writing and researching skills. The original dream, however, remained unchanged.

This year (2018) I have finally hit a new creative vein, and am now tapping into my 'inner source of fantasy stories'. So far I have written 5 stories in 5 months. 'The Mermaid's Granddaughter' is my first fairy tale published on Wattpad.
