"how exactly does one return to the internet after recording like four songs with taylor swift? asking for a friend, of course." i say casually, strumming the guitar on my lap a few times and glancing up at taylor, who's reading over lyrics on her phone.
"good question, i know someone who can get you an answer in like six months." she replies, passing me her phone. "check it over, how is it?"
"that's your part?" i asked, taylor nodding slowly.
"is there an issue?" she asked, laughing a little at the end.
"no, no, it's just short." i explained quickly.
"it's your song." taylor says, as though as an obvious statement. "all of these are your songs."
the breath leaves my chest.

taylor swift is a featured artist on my upcoming songs.
"i was not told that." i mutter, taylor and jack glancing at each other and smiling.
i knew yasmine had sent my half-written drafts for four songs to taylor, but i had no idea we weren't giving the songs to her. when yas texted me, i assumed it was because i was going to be a feature on the song.
"how exactly do i come back? like, i just went on hiatus, i havent released an album in almost two years, not to mention i wrapped the blackout tour three months ago."
"whenever it feels right. i assume you won't be gone for two years, and you're not completely disappearing, either. it's not like it'll be too weird for you to show up in a couple months with new music." taylor assures. i type a few more lyrics on my phone, nodding to show her i heard what she said.
"so, you ready to start running vocals?" i ask taylor, who nods quickly, a large grin on her face.
