Devaki ran across the base, heading for the landing pad. It was a dangerous gamble and would put it more in hir in a lot more trouble than the smuggling operation, but zie didn't care. Zie had to get to Freetown fast. A truck would be too slow and zie would still be in trouble for commandeering it.

An orbital hopper flew over hir from behind, the wind whipped her hair, the hopper was coming in so low and fast. Zie paused and looked up.

It wasn't just any hopper, it was a Kuargari one. It swung around and settled directly in front of hir, even though that meant it was at an odd angle to other vehicles on the pad.

The door hissed opened before the hopper touched down and a tall lithe figure leaped out onto the pad and advanced towards hir. Zie saw many faces inside the hopper, watching hir.

The figure was Lakora hirself. Devaki dropped into a bow. "Commander?"

"I received your message and have been monitoring this situation closely." Lakora said.

"My contact, Gabriel, he's..."

"Got himself in over his head. Doesn't matter. We don't leave one of ours behind. We're doing a retrieval mission. Get in, time is short." With that Lakora turned and headed back towards the hopper.

Devaki rushed to keep up. "He's been captured by..."

Lakora shook her head, no. "A ruse. Which is worse. They are hopelessly out numbered and outgunned. They just want to create an incident, force the consortium to intervene."

"Will we?"

"It's already happening, way ahead of schedule thanks to a few hot heads on both sides. General Ganaki is rushing to keep up."

They climbed in the hopper and Devaki found a seat and strapped in. She knew most of the faces but they weren't hir crew. It didn't matter, they were Kuragara and they were with hir one hundred percent. Lakota's word's echoed in Devaki's mind and were reflected in every face. "We don't leave one of ours behind." The Kuragara were coming for Gabby.
