Introduction and characters

Hello all, I'm Margan! I wrote this self-indulgent story last year whilst I had waaaay too much time on my hands. It was a chance to experiment with my favourite writing tropes. Somehow, I ended up with this!

GENERAL WARNINGS

What you can expect Swords! Battle! A-hole characters! Secrets! Meet-ugly, lots and lots of biting sarcasm and inner monologue, morally grey themes, POC characters, hot mess Type-As, wacky dialogue, lots of courtly intrigues and schemes. So many schemes. So much drama. Really, it's just drama. If I had to summarise it, it would be, The petty dramas of the rich and fabulous. You can find hints of dark academia, cottage-core and royalty-core in this. I will shamelessly admit that I've really gotten into these themes over the past couple of years, so lo and behold: this.

There's romance, lots and lots of romance. As I said, it's self-indulgent, so I went overboard with the fluffy scenes. The romance in this is slightly slow burn. Nothing Jane-Austenish, but it takes a bit to wind up. It's still definitely a romantic fantasy. Don't expect insta-love though!

General aspects: Third close person. Past tense. A few different POVs, but we mostly follow my MC, Ella.

Keep in mind, as this is high fantasy, it's got a ton of worldbuilding. I created a world based on lots of old Faerie mythology, Celtic elements and a lot of my own work. It's a complex system so it's quite wordy and lengthy. Like, I made a map and a religion kind of lengthy. There is a lot of action, so don't worry, it's not all worldbuilding! I still had to write in a lot of contexts, to make the story functional. Be warned, it's a long story! But it's fast-paced and full of action, so I hope it's enjoyable!

I do consider this to be for an older audience, as it touches on dark topics. Take into account that almost all my characters are VERY morally grey—you can expect some shitty behaviour, pardon my french. A lot of their actions are really questionable (murder, deceit, manipulation, you get the gist), keep that in mind before diving in if that's not your particular cup of tea. I don't share these views, I just like writing complex antiheroes with a mix of good and bad. Above all, this is a fantasy setting with fictional people, it's just a story made to entertain.

Warnings include language, violence, graphic scenes, mature content. You know the drill. I will always put up warnings before any chapter that contains these and any other material that may make anyone uncomfortable. Please feel free to request anything else! I want everyone to be comfortable.

I've been on Wattpad for a while, (2011, I'm old) but I'm a first-time poster. I'm still figuring out what works best, so please, feel free to leave polite feedback! I look forward to making friends and receiving any comment about my work!
