"Sick is better than dead, Clarke." A voice whispers from behind me, waking me from my slumber.

I open my eyes and I'm met with almost every one of the 100's sleeping or coughing forms. I turn over to face Bellamy and a better looking Clarke.

"What are you talking about?" I ask with a scratchy voice. My eyes focus on Bellamy's face that is inches from mine. His eyes dance across my face, but neither of us moves.

He clears his throat and sits up, helping me up in the process.

"We were trying not to wake you," he says, glancing at Clarke, who has a small smile on her face, glancing in between Bellamy and me. My eyes narrow at her, but I don't say anything.

"But, while you were asleep, we sent Jasper and Raven to take the shot." Clarke finishes for him. My gaze meets her tired one and my heart sinks.

"Did you get any sleep, Clarke?" I murmur, eyeing her dark circles.

She smiles sadly before shaking her head. "No, but I will when this is over."

I sigh and nod, dejected. "Okay, so why would we be bringing everyone into the dropship?" I ask them.

"I don't know if you heard me, but I said that being sick is better than being dead." Bellamy reiterates.

I immediately shake my head. "No, no way," I say, getting up and off of the hammock. I make my way outside with them following me.

I turn around onto the ramp. "If it doesn't work, then we need to use everyone we've got and even then," I scoff. "We'll still lose, so by making everyone sick, you'll be making cowards." I hiss at Bellamy. "So, if you," I jab his chest. "Want to bring everyone inside the dropship, don't count on me being in there with you," I say harshly, the softness in my voice from earlier gone.

"Hailey..." Clarke trails off before looking up at the sky. My eyes follow hers and I see a trail of smoke.

A grin breaks out onto my face. "They did it," I murmur my eyes dancing around the smoke in the sky.

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds," Clarke murmurs. I turn around to look at her with a surprised look on my face. Her cheeks redden. "It's Oppenheimer." She says, her eyes glancing at the ground.

"The man who made the first atomic bomb," I say, causing her eyes to lift off of the ground and meet mine.

"You know who Oppenheimer is?" She asks with a smile on her face.

I nod when Bellamy says, "Yeah," he glances at me. "We know who Oppenheimer is."

My eyes remain glued to my sword in my hand. I got it back from Bellamy not ten minutes before the virus hit. I had stashed it in my tent before things got bad.

Some blood dried on the blade and specks of it are littered on the hilt, but other than that it's still the beautiful silver broadsword that I know.

I grab the sharpening stone that Miloch gave me and I run it across the blade, making a ringing sound in the small corner of the clearing.

"Preparing for the war?" A voice says, causing me to glance up.

I smile. "Hey, Elliot." I glance back down at my sword and continue sharpening it. I see him sit down next to me with his gaze on my sword.

"You amaze me every day, Hailey." I hear him say. My hand halts and my gaze slowly meets his.

"Don't," I say, dropping my sword to my side. "Don't make me feel like my actions are validated," I whisper emotionlessly.

"You need to hear me out, Hailey." He says, grabbing my wrist. "Please, just listen to me." He whispers, causing my eyes to meet his.

I sigh and set down my sharpening stone and keep my gaze on his. I nod hesitantly at him.

"Okay," he sighs. "Remember when we were taken from our cells and taken to the dropship?" I nod. "Remember when I made you promise that you would run, no matter what?" My jaw clenches, but I nod anyway. "I want you to make that promise again, but for the battle." He says and my fist tightens on the hilt of my blade.

I immediately shake my head. "No, Elliot, I'm not promising that." He opens his mouth to say something but I shake my head. "No, you don't understand, El." I sigh. "I can't lose you." My eyes shine with unshed tears. I look down and swallow.

"I won't leave, but I need you to promise to put yourself before me in the battle." He murmurs, leaning down to meet my eye.

I shake my head. "Dammit Elliot!" I scream out, standing and slamming my fist into the bark of a nearby tree. I feel my knuckles split and blood spill out of them. "I don't deserve to be held above anyone." He opens his mouth to speak. "ANYONE!" My hand shakes as I point at his chest. "Especially you." My voice shakes as I grasp his t-shirt in my bloody fist. "I will not lose you because if I do, my life is worth nothing," I murmur.

"Hailey..." He trails off, grabbing my chin and tilting it up so I meet his gaze. "You are worth it all. The hard route, my life, every hardship out there; you're worth it." He shakes his head, prying my fist off of his shirt.

I begin to shake my head. "Elliot, I'm not going to promise to put your life under mine because you are worth more to me than my life." I sigh, looking away. "End of story."

"Fine." He murmurs, before grabbing my chin again. "You are the biggest idiot that I know, Hailey Arrette Kane."

A sad smile breaks out across my face. "Yeah, you too doofus."

A small grin spreads across his lips. "So, how are things with Bellamy?" He asks after a moment of silence.

I groan and roll my eyes. "You ruined the moment," I say, falling back onto the grass.

I hear him chuckle, falling back with me. "I am the wise one here." I hear him smile.

My eyebrows furrow. "But, I'm older."

He shrugs. "Shamalamma bammalamma."

A laugh bubbles out of my throat. "What?"

He begins to laugh. "I got you to laugh." He smiles, watching my grin widen.

I shake my head before hitting him lightly. "Shut up."

"Anyway, you're the noble knight and I am the wise and helpful gnome." He gives me a thumbs up with a wide grin on his face.

Yet another laugh bubbles out of my throat. "Yeah, okay." I laugh. "I am the noblest knight and you are nothing but a chicken nugget."

His face screws up in confusion. "What's a chicken nugget?"
