Astraeus, a baby dragon, escapes capture and stumbles upon a little shop that he spends months stealing from and hiding in to survive. On the night of a bad storm, the witch and the familiars that own the store end up finding and keeping him.
He finds another dragon, Athanasius, and his whole life changes.
