Isla had been successful at avoiding Daniel yet again. Well, not exactly. They had breakfast the morning after their dinner in LA, but few words were shared between them. He wasn't sure how to bring up how she ran out on him the night before and she wasn't sure how she was supposed to act around him with her newfound emotions.

It wasn't complete radio silence though, he had texted her a couple of times and she had responded of course but the conversations were short. Like something between them had gone cold and she couldn't help but wonder when he would finally stop being so patient and understanding.

Thankfully, she had been occupied with her father for the past couple of days so at least she had that excuse to hide behind for now. The flight had been long and exhausting, especially since she had brought Milo along— who had needed a couple Xanax pills to make it through the flight.

She was now sat opposite her dad at a restaurant on the Marina, the pair had spent all morning together but hadn't yet had a chance to actually catch up on each others lives. Isla loved visiting her dad, he somehow always found someplace new to take her every time she was there.

The man had taken it upon himself to order both of their courses, claiming that as he had tried this restaurant before, he knew exactly what Isla would like. And even though she wasn't convinced— she let him, because she rarely saw her dad throughout the year and always made it her mission to never upset him.

"Now tell me all about your rich and glamorous life."her father begins as the waiter takes their menus and leaves their table. "You've been flying all over the place lately."

Isla couldn't help but laugh at her fathers choice of words. "Work has been pretty busy lately, fashion month was more than hectic. I'm just glad to have a little break from everything for a while."

"Your uncle was overjoyed when he found out you were coming home for his special day." he smiles softly, loving how family oriented his daughter had turned out. She had never once missed a family birthday, even if she wasn't there in person, she would find a way to Facetime— or Skype, in her grandparents case— during the celebrations.

"Don't tell your other brothers, but Uncle George has always been my favorite."

"And you think I don't know this?"

The father daughter duo laugh together, Isla had always been an open book to her parents. Whether it was when she was younger or nowadays when they barely got the chance to see her. They always knew which family members she loved, which ones she hated, whenever she was upset or extremely happy. They always knew.

"How's your mother? Are you going to see her soon?"

"I just got off the phone with her earlier actually, her shifts seem to be getting more frequent." Isla replies sadly, her phone calls with her mother had been quite short lately. Usually not getting anywhere further than 'how are you' and 'i love you, bye'. "I have a flight booked for July, exactly a month from now actually."

"Ada was always a hard worker, you know that."

The one thing Isla more than appreciated about her parents divorce, is that even though they don't communicate anymore, they never made it a mission to speak badly about one another. They always made a point to check up on how they each were, albeit through Isla, but at least it was those conversation she stuck between and never arguments or ill conversations.
