is it scarier to let you in and become disappointed by my drawn out expectations and impossible romantic fantasies, built off of Barbie dolls and rom-coms, picnics and traumas, set up to destroy the safety or comfort of anyone that might not meet them, as if those standards are the end-all, be-all of my success, doomed never to be happy, instead settling for the shortness of humanity and false commitments to an ideal that may never exist,
or to have never let you in at all
