NAILEA'S POV:
I FELT STUPID. When Paige stood in front of me all that confidence I once had disappeared. Why did she still have this effect on me after 3 years.
I wanted to leave as soon as possible I don't know why I hugged her. I guess I just missed that warm feeling
I was walking around not paying attention to my surroundings and I accidentally bumped into someone
"You ok Devora?"
I looked up to see it was Nick talking to me
"Yeah just thinking" I say brushing it off
"Hey can I take you up on that offer to show me where the dorms are?" I asked praying he wasn't busy
"Yeah of course follow me" he said grabbing my luggage and walking away
As we headed to the dorms we talked a lot more and realised we had a lot in common and to top it off we both had brunette hair.
At this point we could easily pass as siblings
We continued our walk towards the dorm rooms, laughter filling the quiet night air. As they reached the entrance, Nick turned to me with a mischievous glint in his eye.
"You know, Nai, if you ever get lost again, just look for the guy with the impeccable sense of direction," Nick teased, earning a playful eye roll from me.
I laughed at his comments, nudging him gently. "I'll keep that in mind, oh wise navigator," I joked with the boy who had become a close friend
"Thanks for this, Nick.Really," I said, voice filled with appreciation for the boy.
Nick grinned, a hint of playfulness in his eyes. "No problem at all, Nailea. Just doing my best friend duties," he replied, his tone light and friendly.
"Who says we've got to that stage yet?" I asked playfully
"I did"
"You have no choice, you indirectly signed a contract. Best friends" He said wrapping his arms around my shoulders
"We could be the husky basketball twins" he said as he pretended to be showing off a presentation
"Ouu You tryna take Caitlin's spot?! I'm telling" I told him grabbing my phone to call the girl
"Please, we literally look like twins she won't care" he said snatching the phone from my hand
I tried to grab it from him but he held on tight and I immediately stopped laughing
"Oh my gosh is that free food" I said now looking behind the boy who quickly turned around as I snatched my phone back
I laughed again smiling as he turned back around and glared at me
"Shit aint nun funny. I don't play with food. Apologies" he said crossing his arms
"My bad Nick" I say raising my hands in surrender
"Letting you slide this one time Nai, Imma head out I got practice" he said side hugging me
"Bye Nick" I said before heading inside my door
I sat in the bed that wasn't taken up by my roommate which seemed to be occupied by another girl on the basketball team by the looks of the warm up kit laying on the bed
I sat there bored with nothing to do. I was contemplating going back downstairs to the gym but I wasn't sure if I would be able to come back to the dorm so instead I FaceTimed Caitlin
"My Biatchhhh!" I yelled when she answered the call
"Hey Nai Nai you look happy" Caitlin says laughing
"Yeah the people here are actually alright" I tell the girl
"Told you that you'd been fine" Caitlin responded
"Yeah okay whatever " I said rolling my eyes
"So how was the team?"
"Yeah everyone was nice" I say keeping it short and simple. If I continued I know I'd accidentally talk about the moment with Paige
"Just nice?" Caitlin asked suspiciously
I hummed in response
"What did you do?" Caitlin sighed sounding like a mother
"See why I always gotta do something, maybe I didn't do anything" I say trying to change the subject
"Nai."
"What" I whined complaining to her about this interrogation
Then Caitlin looked at me glaring into my soul
"Now you doing that mom glare thing."
I sighed there was no point in lying and I know she's gonna have a field day with this one
"I hugged Paige" i whispered
"What you say?" Caitlin asked unable to hear me
"I said. Ihuggedpaige." I said louder this time but really fast
"Nai I swear-"
"Okay, I hugged Paige." I said loud and clear embarrassed thinking back on the moment
"Nailea Julie Devora" Caitlin yelled
"Ugh, I know! I don't know why I did. Everything was so awkward" I said groaning and stuffing my head in the pillow
"Maybe it's not a bad thing, after all you guys are gonna be playing together. Atleast you got the awkward part out early"
I groaned again slamming my head into the pillow meanwhile caitlin just laughed at me
What about this was funny. I personally want the floor to swallow me whole.
I was about to speak again when the door opened revealing Nika one of my new teammates
"Hey- Caitlin I've gotta go talk to you tomorrow?" I ask
"Yeah definitely bye Nai love you" she said I replied saying love you too and I hung up the call
"Hey Nailea I realised you didn't stay for practice"
"Yeah I just wanted to get my stuff in the dorm maybe tomorrow"
"Yeah ok. Well I was about to play 2k you wanna join?" She asked
I perked up at the sound of the game that I played so much
"Oh hell yeah" I say excitedly jumping up from my bed and heading over to her side of the room
Nika laughed at this as she brought out a spare controller and handed it to me
"Prepare to get your ass beat" I tell her as I picked the Golden State Warriors
"Oh you're on Devora" Nika said picking the Hall of Fame Lakers team
"Hey! Nobody told me we could pick hall of fame teams!" She said whining at Nika
"I won't use a meter make it fair"
"All right bet." I say as we start the game
Throughout the hours we spent on the game we bonded over stories and jokes. Already yelling and screaming at each other over plays and fouls
In the end we tied winning 4 games each
"Don't tell Caitlin but you're my new favourite person" I say looking at all the snacks scattered on the floor
After playing, the we had finished a bag of popcorn a litre of lemonade and 2 chocolate bars. Safe to say we were stuffed as fuck
"Don't tell Paige but you're my new favourite person too" she said laughing
Oh trust me you don't have to worry about that one
I thought to myself
We both tided up and went to bed. Saying goodnight and went to bed after an eventful day
