When a turtle senses danger, it hides in its shell,
When a dog is hurt it goes to a corner to lick its wounds,
When a human is hurt, they don't retreat back into themselves,
When a human senses danger, they stay and fight,
So what am I?
Because when I'm hurt I don't spew spiteful words,
When I'm scared I don't stand up to the abuser,
I run, I hide and I retreat back into myself,
So what the hell am?
