April 5th 1965, 1.20am

George lay in bed, listening to the creaks of the silent house.

The anticipation was sending his blood coursing through his veins and making his heart pound. He lay on his back, staring up at the ceiling, holding the bed sheets up to his chin.

He could hear Grace wandering around.

In and out of the spare bedroom every few minutes.

Lights switching on and off.

Grace going to the bathroom.

Grace going to the kitchen.

Grace walking towards his bedroom.

Standing outside the door.

George held his breath.

Grace going away again.

Guilt consumed George. I haven't really done anything, he told himself. She kissed me. I stopped it. Still, it would be better if she hadn't had to stay the night. Just the two of them. Alone.

Grace came out of her room again. The corridor light came on, spilling through the crack under the bedroom door.

She's gonna be in here in a minute, George thought and turned on to his side, facing away from the door.

Grace coming towards the bedroom.

Grace standing outside the door.

Grace in the t-shirt George had given her to sleep in.

Small on him. Big on her.

Still, it barely covered her...

George screwed his eyes shut, forcing the image out of his mind.

Grace standing outside the door.

Grace knocking on the door.

George opened his eyes as his blood ran cold.

Grace whispering, "George?"

Please go away, George pleaded silently. Pattie will be home soon. Please go away!

The corridor light flicking off.

A creak on the floorboard.

A pause. A silence.

George exhaled, only then realising he had been holding his breath.

The light came on again.

"Fucking hell..." George said, quietly, pulling the covers up further.

A creak on the floorboard.

Grace walking towards the bedroom.

Grace outside the door.

Grace opening the door.

George pretending to be asleep.

Grace coming towards him in the dark.

Grace's hand pulling back the covers.

Grace's hand on his back.

Shivers running down his spine.

Grace kissing the back of his neck.

George sat up, pulling himself away from her and nearly slipping off the edge of the bed. "No, no, Grace, I can"t. Please don't..."

"Grace?" Pattie said.

George took a sigh of relief. "Pattie."

"Why did you call me Grace..?"
