Shadows and Secrets

Alessandro's POV:

Three blonds rushed to her aid, preventing her from falling. Amore returned to the living room and confronted me, her index finger pointed accusingly.

"Why on earth did you lay your hands on her? Now we all have to be cautious because of you," she scolded.

I rolled my eyes in response. "What could she possibly do to us? She couldn't even defend herself back there."

Amore gestured to the girl with jet-black curly hair. "Alessandro, let me give you a quick reminder. That's Persephone, the most skilled assassin globally, male or female."

She continued, "Remember when I told you about the Russian ambassador's death last week?" I nodded. "Well, she's the one who killed him. Two reasons: she was probably ordered to, and he tried to strangle her, just like you did."

Amore went on, "Do you know how he died?" I shook my head, "She tied him up and peeled off his skin slowly using a sharp blade, Applied chilly powder and salt on his entire skinned body, crushed his testicles, placed a needle through his nails on each finger, plucked all his teeth, then broke every single bone in his body, she then left him in a room with hungry rats," she said looking over her brother who was on the couch laughing.

Alessa questioned, "And how do you know this?"

Amore sighed, "You don't keep up with the news, do you? There's a dark web article and video of his killing, and she sent it to a news outlet."

Enzo chimed in, "So, are you scared of her?"

"No," Amore replied. "I just don't want to wake up tomorrow with the man I've known since I was two years old dead."

Alessandro sarcastically remarked, "Aww, how touching that you care."

Amore walked away, muttering about our unbelievability. Enzo announced, "Let's get this over with," loud enough for the three blondes and the black-haired girl to hear.

We left the living room and entered the foyer, proceeding down a long hallway before entering the right-hand door. I took the head seat at the conference table, Enzo sat to my right, and Alessa to my left. The four kids followed the black-haired girl into the room.

One of the blonde boys removed her jacket and hung it on the back of her chair. The two other blonde boys sat on her left, and the remaining girl sat on her right.

When she sat down, her eyes locked onto mine. I couldn't tell how long we'd been staring at each other before Amore's voice interrupted our gaze.

"Are you two done with this staring contest? I'm ready to be done with this," she complained as she took her seat next to her sister.

Enzo instructed, "State your names so we know who's who."

"That's Isabel," one of the blonde-haired boys pointed to the other blonde girl. "That's Matteo, and I'm Antonio," he added with a strong Spanish accent.

"I'm Delphine," the girl with black hair said. Her name sounded familiar, but I couldn't quite place it.

Enzo inquired, "Who is the person behind your recent activities?"

"Adonis Nikolaou," Delphine replied with intense disdain.

Amore was puzzled. "But we have an alliance with Adonis, don't we?"

Alessa chimed in, "We do."

"Call Dante."

"He's already on his way," Enzo said, putting his phone away, he's always one step ahead.
