Shinichi never fit in in anything. He was years above the mental development compared to his peers and the vast majority couldn't keep up intellectually with him. Being born to rich parents that were both crazy in their own right, wasn't doing him any favours. It never bothered him and he came to accept his date, although it involved being hurt from time to time and closing himself off to others.
Nothing in Shinichi's life was normal and he didn't try to force things either. He was aware that most people his age didn't spend all their time around corpses, but he wasn't going to try to fit in - solving cases was fun.
So, when Shinichi got a boyfriend, that was far, far away from a sweet school girl, it only surprised those who didn't personally know him.
