Sharing a house with other men wasn't a California dream, but such was the life of a functioning waif, and even at midnight, the house bustled with video games, pre-game drinks, and pizza deliveries.
Conner remained on edge as he waited, even if he didn't know what for. The music he was listening to had become white noise, rubbing in his face the number of seconds that ticked by without having answers.
He wanted the cordless phone in his room, but the headset needed charging on the dock in the kitchen. Some of his other housemates were expecting phone calls also, but they promised to bring the phone upstairs if a call was for him.
