before,
when it was just him
and me
and his monsters,
he was constantly diving into
the endless pit of
self doubt
self pity
self hatred.
(and self-loathing,
and self-disgust,
and self-blame,
and so on.)
it was always hungry,
and he always kept it well-fed.
after,
when it becomes him
and her
and their monsters,
she is constantly determined
to make that pit starve.

secondhand heartbreak
