riding lessons

Skylar's pov 

I haven't talked to Noah at all since he stood me up, he's called so many times but I'm trying to be strong this time and not give in to him, we've been best friends for years and I don't want to lose that, I think that's why I keep going back to him, because when he's the Noah I like, he just has this way of making you feel... special, and like I matter  but the next day he goes back to Noah the jock, who is a player ( even though he's in a on again off again relationship), who drinks, parties and gets laid almost every weekend by his girlfriend, we can have a super deep conversation the night before, I get my hopes up and then the next day he's acting like I don't exist, I just hate feeling worthless all the time, I've realized that this is not good for me or my mental health because I'm sad basically all the time and that is NOT me, it's not healthy either, he treats me like crap and I'm sick of it, anyway, I'm currently working with a troubled horse in the round pen. 

I get him to run around the round pen a few times then turn my back to him and walk to the center, he doesn't come to me which means the join up didn't work... again 

s:" c'mon thunder, you gotta trust me or I can't help you "

I see Austin walking out of the house so I walk thunder back into the stable 

a:" hey princess " 

I roll my eyes at his nickname for me 

s:" Hey Austin, I have a name you know "

a:" yeah I know but princess suits you "

I chuckle 

a:" I'm bored "

s:" umm do you want me to teach you how to ride? "

a:" no, I'm gonna suck "

I smile 

s:" it's not that hard "

a:" you promise you won't laugh? "

s:" I promise "

a:" ok "

s:" you can pick out any horse you want, except the ones in the last 8 stalls "

a:" ok "

he looks at the horses and stops at a stall 

a:" this one looks cool "

I turn around and notice that he's at Spartan's stall, spartan is... was... my cousin's horse, she died last summer and my aunt let me keep him, I didn't even realize that a tear slipped out of my eye until Austin broke me out of my thoughts 

a:" princess, are you ok? "

I wipe away my tear and clear my throat 

s:" oh uh yeah...  that's spartan "

a:" cool name "

I go to the tack room and get everything I need 

s:" we're going to groom him first "

he nods 

after I teach Austin how to groom him I lift the saddle onto his back 

s:" now, you tighten this strap just until it's skin tight, if it's tighter than that it could cause problems "

he nods 

s:" follow me "

I take spartan to the round pen and once Austin is in I close the gate 

s:" give me your hand please "

he looks at me like I have two heads and I chuckle 

s:" just trust me "

he hesitantly gives me his hand and I hold it to Spartan's nose so he can smell him 

when we touch I get this weird tingling feeling, like my skin is burning where he touches, my heart starts racing, I get butterflies in my stomach, I get really nervous, what is this feeling? I can't help but wonder if he feels the same way when he touches me... no, stop it Skylar, there's no way he feels that for you, snap out of it 

I quickly jolted my hand away to snap myself out of my daydream 

s:" I'll show you how to get on him now "

he nods and get in the saddle then get back down 

a:" seems pretty easy "

he tries to put his foot in the stirrup but he's struggling to get his leg up high enough and he just looks so funny that I can't help but laugh 

a:" hey, you said you wouldn't laugh "

s:" I'm sorry, you just look funny "

he starts laughing to but he manages to get up on the saddle 

s:" ok now hold onto the saddle horn for extra stability while I walk you around the ring "

he follows my instructions and after a few minutes of silence Austin speaks 

a:" hey, what happened on your date with Noah? "

s:" it's nothing "

a:" obviously it's something, you came home crying princess, please tell me "

s:" if you must know, he stood me up for his girlfriend "

Austin's pov 

that sentence absolutely broke my heart, I can hear the pain in her voice even though she tries so hard to hide it, what a jerk, he doesn't deserve her 

a:" I'm so sorry princess, he doesn't deserve you "

she chuckles 

s:" Austin, you barely even know me "

a:" from what I do know about you, your a great girl, you deserve better, I have made mistakes in my life but I would never treat a woman like that, I know how to treat women "

s:" thanks Austin, it was stupid of me to think it was a date anyway "

we finish our riding lesson then go inside for dinner and I currently laying in my bed attempting ( and failing) to fall asleep 

I can't stop thinking about her, when she grabbed my hand for spartan to smell, I got this weird tingling feeling, like my skin was burning in a good way, I get so nervous my palms start sweating and I get butterflies, not to mention I find myself doing things I normally wouldn't do to try and impress her ( like letting her convince me to let her teach me how to ride a horse) what is this feeling? I've decided to get to know her better and we could be friends... or more 

a/n: hey guys, if you read my other Austin Mahone fanfiction ( you are my star) I know I said this chapter would be up within a couple days after my last upload but I needed some time to come up with how to put my idea for this chapter together so it would be good and make sense, sorry if I let you guys down but I'd rather take longer and post a chapter that I'm genuinely proud of than to crank out a bunch of crappy ones, I hope you understand
