Dear Matthew,

Why haven't you been replying to my letters? The last one I received from you was in late April. I hope you're eating well, and getting enough sleep—I imagine the other soldiers' snores are giving you some trouble, seeing as you're such a light sleeper. I've packed some Anzac biscuits for you and your squadron, but eat them sparingly! They won't last long if you have them all at once, and you'll get a stomach ache, besides.

Tell me, have the other Australian relief units from Egypt arrived to help you fight the Turks? They were supposed to get to Gallipoli by the nineteenth, but I heard they were delayed.

Our peach tree is blooming. The blossoms are the most lovely shade of pink, and they smell so sweet! In fact, I'm sitting under it as I write this letter. I suppose, because we planted it together, it reminds me of you. I find comfort in it on the days I feel alone.

I'm missing you over here in Australia, as always. I wish we'd married sooner, or that this war just never happened, because I simply can't bear the anxiety of waiting for you to come back safely. Please do.

And please respond soon.

Love always,

Adeline
