LOST LOVE

HOSPITAL

Catherine's pov

The incident last day was horrifying. Dominic asked me to make a complaint. But I didn't. The guy must have gotten the wrong person. I have no enemies. So I let it go.

There is an important meeting tomorrow. So I have to work late today. Not only me, but all the staff are working late today. It was dark outside. So I thought to crash into mom's house today. It is near my office. And I also have to complete the project tonight.

After getting there, I freshened up.

I was working on the project. It was late at night. Usually mom would have made coffee for me to keep me awake, but there was no coffee for me today. She didn't even come to look at me. So I went downstairs. She was sitting on the sofa with her head down. Her right hand is placed on her chest.

"Mom, what happened? " I asked her.
"Nothing,", she replied.
But I was not convinced.
"Nothing, cat. I will go and  sleep, mom said, walking to her bedroom. But she collapsed on the midway point. I ran toward mom. She was breathing less. I took my phone and dialed 911.

I was calling her loudly. But she was not responding. The ambulance came fast. It drove us to the hospital.

The strecher came. They took my mom to the casualty and closed the door.

She was a casualty. I waited outside.
"Doctor, how is she? " I asked the doctor who came out of the casualty.
"She is in observation," he said, leaving me. I was praying to give her back to me.

I waited outside. My tears are rolling. She is the only person I know. There is no one to call or inform. I was sitting alone in the cold night. My body is freezing.

My phone rang. It was Dominic.

"Cat, have you finished the file?" He asked me from the other side.
"No," I said. My voice betrayed me. But he only asked me one question.
"Cat, where are you? " he asked.
"I am at the hospital, "and with that, he hung up the phone.

I walked back and forth through the outside. Then I sat on the chair.

Suddenly, a hand was placed on my shoulder.

"What happened? " he asked me. Did he drive here?
"Mom,", I said, pointing to the casualty. We sat there. He sat with me, holding me tight.
"She will be fine," he comforted me. I hoped too.

Later, the doctor came from the room. I ran towards him.
"How is mom, doctor? " I asked him.
"No worries; she is fine. She will be gone at morning," he said. It is three in the morning. She can leave in the morning. My breath became normal.
"Thank you, doctor," I said.

I sat with Dominic.
"You can leave Dominic," I said to him. He has been sitting here with me for hours, and he has meetings in the morning.
"Is it okay for you to stay here alone?" he asked. This is a hospital. There are many other patients and their bystanders here. There is nothing to be feared.
"Of course," I said.
"But I am not okay with leaving you here alone," he said. I don't want to be a burden for him. But it is a strength to have him with me.

Mom was sent to the room. She was sleeping. Me and Dominic sat on the couch near the bed.

I don't know when I fall asleep. But it was morning now.

I opened my eyes. My mom was sitting in bed having breakfast. Who bought breakfast?.

"Mom," I called her.
"So you woke up," she said, looking at me.
"Mom, the doctor gave you breakfast? "It was not normal.
"No. A boy bought breakfast for me. He said he was your friend," mom said.
"Who is it? " I asked her. I have no guy friends here.
"He said his name is Dominic," she said.
"Mom, he is my boss," I shouted. She has a naughty smile on her face. "But you were sleeping on him last night," she said. I am on him. No way.

"Mom, we can leave anytime.". Dominic came to the room. His clothes have been changed.
"Cat, you are awake," he asked after seeing me awake.
"We can go," she said, all set and ready to go.
I went to pay bills. But the receptionist told me it was already paid. I came to see mom. But mom was waiting to leave. Dominic had taken all her medical reports.
We reached downstairs. I was going to call the cab. But Dominic has already arranged a car for us.

I was a statue there. He takes care of Mom better than me. We stopped at my mom's house. I said thank you to him and went to the house.

I made soup for her. Dominic had already left, and Mom was sleeping in the room.

I went to my mom's room. She was awake. I placed the bowl on the side. She was reading a book.
"Mom, eat this book." I took the book from her hand and placed it on the side table.
She took the bowl and started blowing the spoon full of soup.
"Cat, he is handsome," she said out of nowhere. I know whom she meant.
"Mom, he is my boss," I said. She took the phone from the table.
"Yeah, boss." She sent a message to me. I opened it. It was a picture of me sleeping on Dominic's shoulder.
"Mom, delete it." I was embarrassed.
"You seriously want to delete it, cat?" she asked. I have no answer for that.
"I don't force you to fall for anyone. But if he drives these kilometers at midnight for you, then this guy is something special," she said.
"Something special. Stop it, mom. I don't want the same thing to  repeat, I said. I have no courage to go through another heartbreak.
"Cat, you have a soulmate. No one else can stay with you, and the soulmate can never leave  you, she said.
"Mom, I lost trust in love." I want to change the topic.
"You know about me and your father. We loved it very much. He never left me. I can now feel his presence. Some nights, he came to see me in the garden from heaven. Nothing in the universe can separate  us. I was shocked. My mom and dad were an amazing couple. My childhood was filled with beautiful memories. Mom was a doctor, but she was always there for me and my dad. She never missed any important days, despite her busy schedule.

My phone pings.
"Is it Dominic? " she asked, only looking at me.
"How do you understand? " I questioned her.
"The brightness in your face suddenly increased," she said dramatically.
"Stop teasing me, mom." I took the phone and left the room.

Dominic
Fine?

Me
Yeah. Mom is fine.

Dominic
What about you?

Me
I am also fine.

Dominic
If you want, you can take off tomorrow.

Me
No. I have taken off today. I will be there tomorrow.

I tossed my phone on the couch and fell on the bed. I need to get my last night's sleep.
