Rutters/alphas – Rutters have a beast that is like a separate entity inside them. It can sense their mate and is usually dormant unless provoked, triggered by a heater's scent, or during a rut. When a beast emerges, it can be identified by claws and the rutter's eyes: the whites have a red rim and the pupils dilate. Rutters can impregnate female normies, male or female heaters, and female rutters, but not male rutters. Can sometimes sense their mate and are known to knot inside of them.

Heaters/omegas – Heaters have a beast that is like a separate entity inside them. It is mostly dormant, only showing itself when marking a mate. Both male and female heaters have wombs, and can be impregnated by rutters and betas, though rarely by other heaters. Male heaters can occasionally impregnate normies, but never rutters. Can sometimes sense their mate.

Normies/betas – Humans who have no beast and no males with wombs. Normies cannot detect rutter or heater scent pheromones. They can impregnate female normies and male or female heaters, but never rutters.

Heat – Usually occurring at regular intervals (once a month), a heater will go into a sexual frenzy and feel immense pain if not serviced. Can be activated by a rutter's rut cycle. Suppressants can help control the pain and keep scent glands in check, though they will still ovulate.

Rut – Usually occurring at regular intervals (once a month), a rutter's beast will emerge to spread its seed, preferring its mate or loved one over others. Can be activated by a heater's heat cycle. Suppressants can help control the need to rut and keep scent glands in check.

Scent – Rutters and heaters have scent glands at the base of their necks that release pheromones during ruts or heats. Both genders can control their scent glands when not in rut/heat, though highly emotional situations can trigger them. Rutters can use their scent to intimidate other rutters.

Marking – Rutters and heaters can mark those that they consider their mates. It instills a bit of their own pheromones under the partner's skin, basically claiming them as off-limits to others. Rutters and heaters have fangs that emerge for marking. Marking is usually done anywhere on the neck or shoulders, near scent glands. Normies can be marked by either gender as well.
