"THANK GOD."

january, 2024

"OK- BE PREPARED BEFORE YOU WALK IN HERE PAIGE," Le'ana spoke, ready for the ridicule she was about to face. Her parents weren't home at the moment, so Le'ana showed Paige around her childhood home.

"Le. It can't possibly be that bad." Paige said, rushing for her to open the door. It was safe to say Paige was not prepared for what her eyes would see. Remember at the beginning, where Le'ana spoke of how she's been watching Paige since high school and couldn't wait to play with her? Well, Le'ana hadn't visited her childhood home in three years which resulted in Paige being greeted with her high-school slam poster above Le'ana's twin bed.

"Oh. My. God." Paige laughed, grabbing her phone and preparing to take a million pictures. That was until Le'ana snatched it out of her hand, almost fighting Paige to stop her. Amid all the elbows hitting each other and screams let out by each other, the pair ended up on the minuscule bed entangled in each other's arms.

Le'ana continued to shove and push Paige in an attempt to get her phone, whilst Paige attempted to retrieve it. Le'ana's parents had arrived home to be greeted with a cluster of giggles from what they assumed was Le'ana and Paige.

As the door creaked open, Le'ana's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rodes, were taken aback by the unexpected sight. Their daughter and her friend Paige were engaged in what seemed like a playful wrestling match on Le'ana's childhood bed. It was certainly pushing some boundaries, but nothing her parents hadn't already assumed about the pair.

Her dad, a tall man with a stern expression softened by the lines of laughter around his eyes, raised an eyebrow at the scene before him. Her mother, a petite woman with warm, welcoming eyes, couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of her daughter in such a carefree moment.

Le'ana's parents knew, once they were made aware of Paige coming to Los Angeles, that the pair were more than friends but it was never something they would force out of them. They just had to wait for Le'ana and Paige to figure it out.

"Uh, hi Mom, Dad," Le'ana said, trying to compose herself as she disentangled from Paige. "This is Paige, my... friend." She spoke, struggling to think of the right term.

Paige, still trying to catch her breath from the impromptu wrestling match, flashed a sheepish grin at Le'ana's parents. "Hi, it's nice to meet you both." She extended an arm unsure of how to greet them. She ignored the word, assuming it was just so she didn't have to explain the complications of their relationship to her parents.

Maya, her mother, approached with a warm smile, her eyes twinkling with amusement. She immediately pulled Paige into a hug before speaking. "It's lovely to meet you too, Paige. I must say, you certainly seem to have brought some excitement into our home."

Andre, her father, though he maintained his composure couldn't hide the hint of amusement in his voice. "I hope you two were having a good time?"

Le'ana shot a nervous glance at Paige, silently pleading for her to play along. "Oh, absolutely, Dad. She was- uh- bullying me for the poster." She laughed, cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

Paige nodded enthusiastically, catching onto Le'ana's cue. "Yeah, Le'ana was showing me her old high school stuff. That slam poster from senior year is a real cold!"

Le'ana's parents exchanged a knowing look before bursting into laughter. "Oh! How silly of me you're that Paige." Maya remarked, still chuckling. "She's loved you forever." Paige glanced over at Le'ana, a smirk prevalent in her eyes. Le'ana simply rolled hers in return, prepared for the bullying she was going to face.

Andre clapped his hands together, his stern expression melting into a grin. "Alright, you two. Dinner's almost ready. Why don't you join us in the kitchen? We'd love to hear more about how this season has been."

As Le'ana and Paige followed them out of the room, the tension that had hung in the air dissipated, replaced by the warmth of familial acceptance. Paige couldn't help but feel grateful for Le'ana's parents' easygoing nature and their ability to embrace the unexpected with open arms. As they sat down to dinner, swapping stories and sharing laughter, Paige knew that this unexpected encounter was just the beginning of many more memories to come with her dear friend Le'ana and her wonderful family.

As the evening progressed, and the incredible atmosphere continued around the dinner table, Paige couldn't shake off the feeling of excitement bubbling within her. Le'ana's parents had been incredibly welcoming, and Paige found herself feeling more and more at ease in their presence.

Once they finished up dinner, the conversation veered towards lighter topics, and Paige's heart raced with anticipation. She stole a glance at Le'ana, who was animatedly recounting a funny anecdote from her high school days.

After dinner, the duo found themselves thanking Le'ana's mom for the meal and proceeding to squish themselves onto her bed. Paige's poster lingered above them.

Unable to contain her emotions any longer, Paige cleared her throat, drawing Le'ana's attention to her. "Um, Le'ana," she began, her voice slightly shaky but determined. "There's something I've been wanting to say."

Le'ana turned to her, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "Paige, you ok?"

Taking a deep breath, Paige pushed aside her nerves and reached for Le'ana's hand, intertwining their fingers. "I was wondering-" She began, looking around the room and avoiding Le'ana's eyes. "I was wondering if I could be your girlfriend?" Paige spoke.

Le'ana's expression softened, her eyes searching Paige's face for understanding. She didn't speak for a few minutes leading to Paige speaking up. "Never mind. It was a stupid question. It's fine." It was a habit both girls had, rushing to jump out of a situation they should've dealt with earlier.

Then, a radiant smile spread across Le'ana's face, lighting up the room with its warmth. "Paige," she said softly, her voice filled with emotion. "Only if you'll be mine."

"Right above a poster of me. Real romantic." She laughed. Trust Paige to always have a joke ready, even when she's just bagged her dream girl.

Paige's heart soared with joy as she leaned in to press a gentle kiss to Le'ana's lips, sealing their newfound relationship amidst the laughter and love that surrounded them. They were each other's. Finally.
