Yuanfen, "fateful coincidence," is a concept in Chinese and Vietnamese societies describing good and bad chances and potential relationships. It can also be translated as "destiny, luck as conditioned by one's past", or "natural affinity among friends."

Ahmad Azam was a young teen with bright eyes. There were things that he loved; his mother’s smile, the chemistry of everything and football. There were things that he hated with a burning passion; being bested in what he was confident in. Studying was something Ahmad excelled in. Something he took pride in. Losing that to a girl who couldn’t even match the color of her hijab with her skin tone; grated on his nerves.
