John Michael Green is an American writer in young adult fiction, recently popular for his fourth solo novel, The Fault in Our Stars, and addition stories that focus on mental health. Green was born on August 24, 1977 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended his early education from Lake Highland Preparatory School and Indian Springs School. Later on, he earned a double graduation degrees in English and Religious Studies from Kenyon College.

After he graduated, Green spent five months working as a student chaplain at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He intended to become an Episcopal priest, but his experiences of working in a hospital with children suffering from life-threatening illnesses inspired him to be an author, and later to write The Fault in Our Stars

Instead he worked for a book review journal Booklist as a publishing assistant and production editor while writing his first book, Looking for Alaska. Green's debut novel was published in 2005; it won the annul Michael L. Printz Award by the American Library Association. 

To this day, Green has published eight stories, including one non-fiction: Looking for Alaska (2005), An Abundance of Katherines (2006), Let It Snow: Three Holiday Romances (2008), Paper Towns (2008), Will Grayson, Will Grayson (2010), The Fault in Our Stars (2012), Turtles All the Way Down (2017), and The Anthropocene Reviewed: Essays on a Human-Centered Plant (2021).
