ENGAGEMENT

Catherine's pov

The sun's rays came into my room through the curtain. I looked at the clock. It says 6 a.m. I got a nice sleep last night. This is a fresh start. A life for me. Thinking only about me.

I got into the bathroom. Serena gave me a lot of skin treatment items. I don't usually use this. But I tried it today.

I ate some pancakes and looked through the newspaper. The interview on the last day went well. I applied for others too.

I hope I will get a job in a few days. Mom called me last night. She was worried about her daughter. But I assured her. I picked this life, and I should be responsible for facing its aftereffects. It will make me bold.

I was getting ready for Selin's engagement. She made a hundred calls for me. I switched off the phone. I wore the red dress we bought on our shopping trip and just made a touch-up. I didn't want to be late, so I ran to my car. Cerena called me from her door.

"Cat, my car is not working," she said, coming running to me. She stayed at her house last night.
"Can you drop me off on the subway?" she asked.
" Yeah. Get in fast, I said, opening the door and starting the engine.

"This was the dress we bought from the mall," she asked. My eyes were still on the road, and I replied, "Yes.".
"You put on makeup," she grabbed my face.
"Rena, I am driving," I shouted. God, she is so careless.
"Sorry, sorry," she apologized.
"You look gorgeous," she said, smiling.
"Really,", it is not bad to hear someone praising you.
" Hm. Too bad James is not here to see what he is missing, she said. I don't want to think about him. Let him do whatever he wants. So I drop the subject.

At hall

I opened the make-up room's door. Selin was getting ready. She looked at the door, and her eyes widened. Selin was surprised to see me just like me.

She stood up and ran towards me in her long gown. I placed her engagement gift on the side table and waited for her. But she tripped down.

"Cat...", she cried from the floor. The stylist and others in the room started laughing at her. The bride is on the floor.
"Why the hell do you run sell?" I pulled her to stand up.
She dusted her dress and fell on me. "I missed you so much." I can't balance her weight on me.

"Miss, your hair will become a mess," the stylist warned her. Well, Selin didn't hear her words.
She pulled away from me and looked at my dress.
"Wow, you look gorgeous. Your curves are still very beautiful, she told me.
"You too look gorgeous, I said. I touched her face. She smiled at me. We haven't seen her for more than a year. I have many things to tell her, but now I don't know what to say.

"Miss, sit back," the stylist called her. She pulled me in to sit with her.
"Okay, now you can all leave," she said to the others in the room, whom I assume maybe her friends and cousins.
"If you have any doubt, you can ask her. She knows what is best for me," Selin said to the stylist. The stylist smiled at me.

Me and I helped Selin with the make-up. She won't keep her mouth shut. Helna kept scolding her.

"Sel, you look like a princess," I said, looking in the mirror.
She giggled.
"Oh. I forgot to ask. Who is the prince? You didn't tell me, "I am at the engagement without knowing the groom.
"His name is Antonio. He is an interior designer, she said.
"How do you meet him? " I asked.
"I haven't met him personally," she said, adding lipstick.
" What? So you two started a relationship online? I asked.
No," she answered.
I was shocked. Is she going to marry a stranger?
"What? " she asked me.
"Are you crazy to marry someone without knowing them?" I said.
"Cat and his family have a well-known interior design company. Antonio is the CEO of the company. He is super rich and good-looking. What else do I want? " she asked.
She is practical. I didn't ask much. I have known James for my whole life, but still, he cheated. So this may work.

The door opened again. Daniel and Victor came in. They both wore red tuxedos.

"Hey sel, oh my cat," Daniel walked to us.
"Oh, my god. Who is the bride here?" Victor pointed to Selin and me.
"I am the bride here," she said, standing up.
"Sel, don't fall like before," I warned her. She is a short girl, and the dress is too long for her.
"Did you fall? " Victor started laughing.
"Cat, why didn't you take a video? We should have played it on the LED  wall, Daniel asked.

"Shut up, Daniel!" she yelled at him.
"Antonio has to teach her how to walk first," Victor mocked at her.
"Oh, I know how to walk," she said, pouting.
"Then show us a beautiful walk like a lady does," Victor clapped.

She made a ramp walk. But Victor and Daniel were not satisfied with it. They shook their heads.

"Cat, show her how to ramp walk." Victor pulled my hand.
"Yes, cat, teach her some lessons," Daniel also joined.

I stood at the end of the room and made a walk towards them.
"Yes, this is how you should walk," Daniel said proudly.
"Cat, teach me how to? "Selin hurried me.

I taught her how to walk, but she always overdid it. She waved her hips too much.

Her mom came to the room and informed her that it was time. Selin went with her mom downstairs.

Me, Daniel, and Victor sat in the room. We were playing video games.

"What are you guys doing here? "Selin's aunty came to our room.
"Nothing, aunty," Victor said.
"The party is about to begin," she said, pushing us downstairs.

There are a lot of people in the hall. Music is playing. The guests are chatting. Selin and Antonio are on the stage. Their parents are flying from one guest to another.

Hi, handsome," said"a girl called Victor.
"Is she blind? How dare she call him handsome? Daniel whispered in my ear.
"Shut up, Daniel," I scolded him.
We looked at Victor's side, but he was not there.

"Where is he? " Daniel asked.
"How do I know? I am with you, I said to Daniel.
We looked around, and Victor was with that girl.

"The girl doesn't deserve me," Daniel said.
"It's okay, Dany."You have to accept your fate," I laughed.
"What fate? Watch me. Within ten minutes, I will get a girl," he said, walking in the direction where many girls were sitting.

My phone rang. I went to a corner. It was wad.
"Yes, wad," I answered.
"Are you free now? " he asked.
" No. I am at an engagement function, I said.
"Engagement function? " he repeated.
" Yeah. It's Selin's engagement. You remember her, right?" I asked him. Selin had a crush on Wad, but she had no courage to express it to him. He had no idea about it. Now she has found another one.
"Of course. I remember five of you, he said.
"So what do you want to tell me? " I asked.
"I made an investigation about James," he said.
"And? " I asked.
"James is in the Emerald Hotel."The receptionist told me he was a common customer there. He always goes there with a girl whom he introduces as his wife," he stopped. May be waiting for me to process. I can expect this now.
"So?"
"I arranged for a private investigator to find evidence against him," he said.
"That's a good idea. "My voice was a bit high. A guy standing next to me walked to me.

"Hi," he said. I picked up the call and said a small hello to him.
"Are you alone here?" the guy asked.
Suddenly, a hand was placed on my shoulder.
"No, she is not," Daniel said.
We walked to the stage.
"Where were you guys? "Selin asked.
"A guy was hitting on a cat," Daniel said.
"Should we inform James?" they laughed. Antonio came to us. She introduced us to him. We took a photo together.

"Cat, you are the star of the party," she whispered.
"What do you mean? " I was confused.
"Antonio's cousin asked about you," she said.
"What? " I was shocked. I have never given attention to anyone other than James.
"No worries. I told him you are married, she said. I got down from the stage and sat with Daniel and Victor.

Time skips.

It became evening. I said goodbye to them and went to the house. Selin has already updated the status. I reached home and relaxed.
