Author's Note:

I know you hate me after the last chapter, but just hear me out. One of the things that I loved so much about the EK story is that Sanem found her way on her own and wrote her book while Can was sailing the world. Without him or her family, without the agency. She found her voice. For me personally, that part of her character arch resonated so loudly in my life at the time.

She needed to know within herself that she could accomplish her dreams, so I wanted this story to reflect that growth.

And I promise that Bella (aka Polen) is gone forever! No more angst, other than finding a way back to one another after a lot of soul searching.

Trust me? Then keep reading..

Sanem had no idea how she got home. Pulling up to her house, she looked around realizing where she was as if coming out of trance. Walking slowly up to her door, she finally got the lock opened as her hands trembled violently.

Turning off her phone, she crawled into bed completely dressed and collapsed into sobbing tears.

Can was still standing in the same spot where she had left him. He couldn't move. The pain had paralyzed him. He didn't think he was even breathing until the tears started to flow.

He was so hurt that she would believe these things about him. How could she do that? She said she was coming to tell him that she loved him, yet she threw it away so easily. Did he mean so little to her? He had done everything in his power to show her that he loved her, more than just saying the words.

Realizing that he was still standing there, he moved like a man who had been drinking, staggering and dragging his feet until he got inside the hut. Letting the pain and the hurt come in waves, he sat there for hours trying to make sense of it all.

Very early the next morning, Sanem was awakened suddenly by the sound of someone banging on her door. Fearing it was Can, she ignored it until she heard Corinna yelling for her to open up.

Flinging the door open and facing her friend, she saw when her fear dissipated and morphed into shock.

Sanem! What happened to you?! Corinna said as she moved her out of the way so she could get inside.

Honey, talk to me! Are you hurt? What happened? I called until late last night but thought you might still be with Can. When you didn't  answer this morning, I came straight here, she said with her eyes wild with renewed fear.

Nothing happened, Sanem croaked.

How can you stand here and say that? You're in the same clothes I saw you in yesterday and you look like..well, you look awful, Corinna said gently.

Sitting down, Sanem slowly found the strength to tell her everything that had transpired the day before at Can's hut. Bella kissing him, she and Can arguing.

Shaking her head, she said sadly, It's over. I should have never taken a chance with my heart. I know I said that before but this time it's real. It's over.

She and Corinna talked for a long time and when they were done, she said, I've made a decision, Corinna. I have to leave for awhile. I'm going to go and visit Santo in Madrid. I need time to unravel what has happened and I can't do it here.

Taking a breath in, Corinna replied, I think that may be a great idea, my sweet girl. Go and take some time off from work. Vera and the staff can handle things for a week or so. Go and relax, do some sightseeing, hang out with Santo and come back refreshed. Come on. Let's buy your ticket.
