deterioration of the fight or flight response

"WHAT DO WE DO?" Izzie panics. "What do we do?"

"I'm starting dopamine and dobutamine drips. We can use those together, right?" Meredith shuffles around the crash cart, while Maddison fumbles with her pager.

"We can?" Maddison asks, putting her pager down. "What about milrinone?"

"I don't know." Izzie shakes her head.

"You know, none of us do." Cristina answers. "Just start the dobutamine and dopamine."

"What about... what about... gluceratide? That might help." George suggests.

"I feel like my chest is running away." Denny moans.

"His heart rate's 217." Maddison tells them.

"He's in SVT." Izzie says.

"No, no. Izzie, stop pumping. Stop." Cristina tells the girl.

"No, there's no change." George notes.

"We need that medicine!" Maddison tells Meredith, who was still searching.

"What medicine?" Izzie asks.

"I'll know it when I see it." Meredith answers.

"I think... the one that stops the heart. Here hold the mask." George hands the oxygen mask to Izzie.

"No. The whole point is to keep my heart beating." Denny tells them.

"No, no, no. It only stops it for six seconds." Izzie explains to him.

"Meredith, it's adenosine." George tells her.

"Uh, his heart is speeding up! Guys!" Cristina warns them.

"You guys! We have to do something! He cannot take this for much longer." Izzie worries.

"What about shocking him?" George asks.

"Found it!" Meredith stands up.

"Cristina, come over here. Lift up his arm." George tells her. "The nurses always lift the arm when they push adenosine. It gets to the heart faster."

"Ok, Denny. You're gonna feel, um..." Izzie stutters.

"Izzie!" Denny looks at her.

"No, it's ok. It's ok. It just feels like..." Izzie continues.
