"DOMINANCE."

december, 2023

THE UCONN GIRLS HAVE BEEN THE TALK OF THE season so far. It began with their game against Louisville on the sixteenth of December. They won by over twenty points and to no surprise Le'ana dropped thirty of their eight-six points. She accredited it to the heartfelt moment between her and Paige in the locker room before the game. They had been having plenty of those recently and whenever their teammates saw it they never intervened. Even Geno would let them have their moment, knowing it ultimately translated to a win on the court.

Le'ana viewed it almost like a weekly flower lesson. She'd spend around ten minutes before every game not only learning what these beautiful flowers looked like ('not as beautiful as her' according to Paige) but she also got a chance to learn each meaning.

"You know, I still don't get the whole flowers thing, P." Le'ana gazed up in confusion. Paige Bueckers, the girl whose life revolved around basketball and athletics, was intrigued by flowers. It was a true mystery to the whole team. Le'ana at one point had even asked Nika, knowing Paige and her had been teammates for four years compared to Le'ana and Paige's measly two months of friendship. Nika was just as confused as the former, none of the girls on the team really understood Paige's interest in flowers but Le'ana was opposing.

"That's a story for another time." Paige laughed, tracing a soft carnation. It was a flower she'd grown a strong liking to since meeting Le'ana. She wasn't too sure what the connection was but she just followed her heart.

"Ooh- I think I recognise this one." Her eyes lit up. The pair made it a habit each game day for Le'ana to attempt to guess what the flower was and so far she was unsuccessful. yet there was no shot she wouldn't recognise this one.

"Go on Le!" Paige encouraged her, proud of the girl.

"It's a carnation." Paige clapped for the girl, after five different flowers she had finally guessed correctly. This raised some suspicion as she wondered why Le'ana knew it was a carnation. before she could even question the girl, Le'ana took sight of Paige's furrowed gaze with hints of confusion and extended her sentence. "They're uh- my favourite flower." Paige took a mental note of Le'ana's comment, maybe it would come in later. "Yeah- Mainly for devotion," Paige added to her knowledge.

"Devotion? That's interesting." Le'ana thought of Paige's devotion to making them work.

Paige tried so hard to make the pair work. She spent restless nights talking to her mother on Facetime and honestly, she was sure she was ready. it was all about timing. Everything to do with Le'ana and Paige was an issue of timing.

As Paige reflected on the intricacies of timing in her relationship with Le'ana, she couldn't help but marvel at the way their connection had evolved over time. It had been a journey filled with challenges and obstacles, but through it all, they had remained steadfast in their commitment to each other.

From the moment they had first met on the court, Paige had sensed something special about Le'ana. There was an intensity in her gaze that ignited something deep within Paige's own heart. The minute their eyes caught sight of each other Paige knew she wanted nothing but to be in Le'ana's presence. But fate, it seemed, had other plans. Just as their friendship was beginning to blossom, Paige's knee injury forced her to put her dreams on hold, leaving their budding relationship hanging in the balance.

But Paige was nothing if not devoted, and she had refused to let their connection fade away. Paige had spent countless hours on the phone with her mother, seeking advice and guidance on how to navigate the complex world of relationships. And slowly but surely, she had begun to lay the groundwork for a future with Le'ana, one built on trust, understanding, and, above all, love.

As she looked back on their journey together, Paige couldn't help but smile at the memory of the day they had stood together in the rain, their hearts laid bare for all to see. It had been a moment of pure vulnerability, a chance for them to let down their guards and truly connect on a deeper level. And in that moment, as the rain poured down around them, Paige had known with absolute certainty that she was ready. Ready to take the next step in their relationship, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, ready to devote herself wholeheartedly to the woman standing beside her. At the time she was unaware of her preparation to be with Le'ana, hence her hesitation. Now, the girl couldn't wait to have Le'ana. Only if Le'ana wanted her too.

As the final buzzer sounded and UConn emerged victorious once again, Paige felt a sense of peace wash over her. For in that moment, she knew that their victory was about more than just basketball; it was a symbol of their unwavering devotion to each other and to the journey they had embarked upon together.

And as she looked into Le'ana's eyes, her heart overflowing with love and gratitude, Paige knew she was making the correct decision. For their love was not bound by the constraints of time or circumstance. As they celebrated their victory with their teammates, their laughter ringing out through the empty locker room, Paige couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for the adventures that lay ahead. And as they walked out into the night, their arms wrapped around each other, Paige knew that their love would endure whatever struggles came at it.

And as they emerged victorious in their next games against Butler, andTMU, their bond only grew stronger, their commitment to each other and the game of basketball unwavering. For Le'ana and Paige, basketball wasn't just a sport; it was a way of life, a symbol of devotion to something greater than themselves.
