Media Representation

Hey everyone I'm back from the dead!

So I've talked a bit about media representation before mainly when I've talked about Alice Oseman, but I thought it'd be fun to share some either canonically aro/ace characters or characters who we as a community have pretty much claimed as our own! I've also added a few which I personally strongly believe to be aro/ace even though I haven't seen lots of others saying this too. Also, fair warning, I don't watch a lot of stuff and so this list will be very very limited so please do add your own characters and share what show/film/book/video game etc they're from!

Elsa - Frozen. Aroace
I feel like Elsa has been claimed by both the aroace community and the wlw community. And this isn't bad but I personally love both of these for her so I like to think of her as lesbian oriented aroace personally

Merida - Brave. Aroace
Merida's similar to Elsa in that she's a princess whose story doesn't revolve around romance (to the point that it revolves around her disliking it so much that she turns her mother into a bear) but I feel there's a lot less conflict over her. Plus, she's the most aroace character. She's literally an arrow-ace (quite like Artemis, if you will)

Tiana - The Princess and The Frog. Demi
This isn't one a lot of people see but I personally really love demisexual/demiromantic Tiana

Isabella - Encanto. Aroace
Isabella is another case of lesbian or aroace but we are after aro/ace characters here so we will claim another one thank you Disney!

Hiro - Big Hero 6. Aroace
Hiro just really gives aroace vibes. I think we can all agree on that

Jughead Jones - Riverdale. Ace
Ok, confession: I've never read or watched this. But I know that he's canonically asexual (though apparently the show kind of strayed from this to the best of my knowledge. Idk, I haven't seen it. Sue me!)

Todd Chavez - Bojack Horseman. Ace
Ok I also haven't watched this but once again I know that he's canonically asexual and it's an actual plot point (or it at least has scenes about his identity)

Sherlock Holmes - Sherlock. Ace (probably arospec)
A lotttt of people disagree with me here because of whatever relationship he had (sorry I once again haven't actually watched it!) but from the clips I've seen, he is definitely asexual and probably arospec too

The Doctor - Doctor Who. Ace (probably arospec)
The Doctor is SO asexual. Particularly the 11th Doctor has a lot of veryy ace scenes

Newt Scamander - Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Aroace
Well I have watched this once but it was like 5 years ago with some friends kinda late into the night and my memory is not good enough for that but I think this is quite a widely accepted one

SpongeBob - SpongeBob SquarePants. Ace
This one I am incredibly ashamed to admit I never watched as a kid (don't come for me I was watching Little Einsteins and learning about Mozart which has done me very good with becoming a musician!) but I do know most people did watch it and Spongebob is canonically asexual!

Barbie - Barbie. Aroace
This is specific to the movie because the toys are at any child's mercy and will in most cases be unfortunate enough to have their head forced against another barbie or a ken (mostly depending on whether the child has a ken I think). But I think that Barbie in the movie is absolutely aroace

Charlie Weasley - Harry Potter. Aroace
I don't think any aroace who's been through a Harry Potter phase doesn't view this guy as an aroace icon. We barely even see him but he literally never settles down with a family because he's so obsessed with DRAGONS. I rest my case

Luna Lovegood - Harry Potter. Ace
Luna is ace in my opinion. I can't and won't explain

Alex Kubdell - Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. Aro
This is for a very niche demographic like me because most people don't unironically watch this show. And while it's never in the show, I'm pretty certain that the writer or producer or someone official did come out and say that Alex is aromantic which is so very her and I love it

Katniss Everdeen - The Hunger Games. Aroace
This one. Makes people kick off. Obviously I know she ends up in a love triangle and having kids with one of them (I won't say who in case people don't want spoilers, though I'm sure most people know), but in my opinion, she really isn't interested in this stuff and also she's another arrow-ace

Tris Prior - Divergent. Demi
Tris is demisexual in my humble opinion. My evidence? Why I'm glad you didn't ask. I don't have a lot but one of her 6 fears is literally physical intimacy, which was WITH her boyfriend. I say she's demi coz she later overcomes this fear and I believe that's because she finds that deeper bond with him

Four - Divergent. Grey-ace
Speak of her boyfriend, this guy also gives me grey-ace vibes. I don't have a very precise identity headcanon for him but I just can't believe he's allo so he's grey-ace to me

Tori - Solitaire/Heartstopper. Ace
I won't go into a lot of detail on any of these next three because they're all Alice Oseman characters who I've previously mentioned. Tori is canonically asexual and I love her for this

Isaac - Heartstopper. Aroace
Isaac is canonically aroace and he is so heavily relatable to me it's almost painful

Aled - Heartstopper/Radio Silence. Demi
Aled is demisexual. I can't remember the book very well but I'm pretty sure this is made explicit. If not, Alice Oseman has confirmed it

Alhaitham - Genshin Impact. Demi
Ok. Ok. A lot of people would take issue with me saying Alhaitham is asexual because they are simps who don't want to imagine this. I understand this to an extent. He is very attractive. BUT he's demisexual and nothing can change my mind (unless someone suggests a better ace-spec label). Also side note, I could name about a billion Genshin characters who I believe to be aro/ace (Albedo, Venti, Rosaria to name a few) but I won't get into that

Link - The Legend of Zelda (BoTW/ToTK). Aroace
Again, this is really unpopular with a lot of people because everyone ships him with Zelda (well and Mipha and Sidon and Rauru and about a billion other characters but mainly Zelda). When I played BoTW, I never thought of them in any kind of romantic way and to this day, I will die on the hill that Link is aroace

Alastor - Hazbin Hotel. Aroace
I don't want to get too political about this one. I've recently become obsessed with the show and Alastor is my favourite character. I love that he's canonically asexual and I of course believe he's also aromantic (even though the writer refuses to confirm it to "let the shippers have their fun". I'm not getting to into the controversy, but this does piss me off I won't lie)

Husker - Hazbin Hotel. Grey-ace
Husker is canonically pansexual, so this is entirely my headcanon. I saw someone online who imagined him as grey-ace and now I can't not see him as grey-ace. I fully accept panromantic and whatever forms his attraction take being pan-oriented but I do like grey-ace Husk

Like I said, please comment other headcanons you have or other canon aro/ace characters! I am definitely not the most cultured so keep this going!
