The Bhangarh Fort is a 17th-century fort built in the Rajasthan state of India. It was built by Bhagwant Das for his younger son Madho Singh.

Legend of Bhangarh: A sadhu named Baba Balu Nath lived within the fort area and was cursed the city of Bhangarh. Emperor Madho Singh asked him for permission to build the city. The saint gave his approval with the condition that the shadow of the Emperor's palace should never fall on his retreat. Failing this, it would result in a destruction of the entire fort town and so it did.

Another story involves love and enchantment. A wizard fell in love with Princess Ratnavati of Bhangarh. Since there was no way by which he could attain her, he decided to use black magic to enchant the oil intended to be used by her, such that the mere touch of the oil would hypnotize the princess and she would surrender herself and marry him.

However, the princess saw through the wizard's trickery and throw the potion onto a big boulder nearby and it started to roll down towards the wizard and crushed him. Before he died, he made a curse that Bhangarh would be destroyed soon and no one would be able to live within its precincts. The years had past and a war emerged between Bhangarh and Mughals from the north. All the people in the fort, including the princess, were killed.

According to different local folk stories, no one is allowed to enter the fort premises once the sun goes down because it is haunted; with strange noises and tourists claiming to have seen ghostly apparitions. It is also rumored that those who have stayed overnight have not returned.
