One month into her new job, Jalillah felt like she was misplaced. She was already bored. Her routine of 8 am to 5 pm was killing her, she felt brain dead. The only thing keeping her sane was her books. The new employees had induction including interns, but induction was a breeze, and she was placed in the investment department. Her enthusiasm for numbers was to help crunch investment statistics, but a month on, she had no specific schedule. On a Friday morning, she got a call from 'Madam' as everyone calls her. Adiza Barma, the CEO had summoned her. Jalillah was surprised and a bit anxious about the call. On the elevator, she tried to look at her reflection fixing her army green hijab in place. She had a matching jacket and a silk grey blouse. Her skirt was long one could only see the tip of her cover shoes. The burning question on Jalillah's mind was 'Had she compromised a bit much?', She wanted to live her life and not be alive and survive it. She felt she was derailing, but resigning would look bad and a blatant disregard for the opportunity she was handed. As the elevator opened, she felt like she was being sucked into a universe she did not want to be a part of. A voice inside her told her 'This is adulating Jalillah, so buckle up and brace yourself'. Jalillah approached the secretary on the last floor, a smiling-faced middle-aged woman.

"Good morning Ma. My name is Jalillah I..."

"Yes please Madam has been expecting you," the woman said with a smile, cutting Jalillah halfway through her introduction and giving her no time to think.
