The whistling of the kettle filled the kitchen as Airah maneuvered around. She was quick to put it off the flame. She moved on to finish packaging Areef’s lunch.

“Babe?”

Areef called out from outside the kitchen. Airah was quick to pick up his coffee and head out only to bump into him spilling the coffee on him. The hot liquid touching her hands made her let go of the cup only for it to break on the hard tiled floor.
Areef was quick to reach for Airah’s hands already dismissing the burning of the hot liquid on his chest.

Airah on the other hand for a short moment didn’t see the caring face of her husband, instead she saw an angry face glaring at her. Or was she startled too much she imagined it?

“Airah? Airah? Are you okay?” Areef’s concerned voice registered in her head.

She shook her head as if to clear the head making Areef misunderstand and think she was saying she’s not okay.

“Let’s go to the hospital then. I will get you your Hijab, stay here.” He was about to turn around when she held him back.

“Hospital? Why?” She asked still dazed.

He just stared at her as if he was trying to figure out what might be wrong with her. “You said you were not okay, I said lets go to the hospital.”

She was looking at him as if he has grown two heads. “It was just hot coffee Areef, It didn’t even touch me much. It spilled more on you.”

She jumped over the broken ceramic and dragged Areef from the kitchen.

“I totally ruined your shirt, you might even have to take another shower.” She said as she made attempts to wipe off the dark colored stain on his white shirt.

Areef just watched her still unsure of her behavior. He could swore she looked like she had seen a very scary ghost when she looked at him after their little accident. The incident reminded him of his first encounter with her and he hopes with all his heart that it didn’t have the same effect on her. He wasn’t ready for Airah to remember their horrible past. He knew he was being selfish but he didn’t mind if she never regains her memories.

Their life is so perfect right now he wished he could freeze time and continue living like this for eternity. He wasn’t sure of what will happen if Airah is to regain her memories and he isn’t so fond of finding out.

“Earth to Areef!” she said snapping her fingers in front of his face. “And what are you thinking of now? When your wife is right in front of you.”

‘I can never lose you’ he thought to himself while he wrapped his arms around her tucking her hand under his chin. “I’m just realizing how lucky I am to have such a loving wife.”

She chuckled a little relaxing into his hold. “You are not hurt are you?” She asked touching his stained shirt as she backed away.

He shook his head. “Well, go change and I’ll make another coffee for you.”

Areef shook his head again. She pouted. “Come on Areef baby, you can’t be late on your first day back.”

“And I won’t be. You know why? Because I’m……”

“…Because you’re the boss and you make the rules. You have said that a million times today.” Airah rolled her eyes.

He frowned a little as he began walking to her but she was quick to push him out the kitchen and lock the door.
