ANALYSIS CONT.HOUR GLASSES
Hour glasses were used as an analogy a lot. Theres multiple layers of meanings with this one#ONE: Hour glass is referenced to the amount of time Jeno had left until he woke up from 'his dream/coma'. The hour glass was constantly trickling with sand, symbolising every second that passes. So at the end of the book, the hour glass finished, showing the end of Midnight Stories. But it was said that Jeno was willing to flip it over again and start again, symbolising the start of Jeno and Yuri's own story.
#TWO:
This is the scene where Yuri and Jeno were together celebrating one of their last days together, where Jeno released fireflies for Yuri to admire. These fireflies represents the yellow sand in an hour glass. In the passage above, Yuri tried to catch the yellow fireflies, but they kept slipping through her fingers. "It seemed as though every second she had tried to catch, she had lost". This reflects the whole idea of hour glass and how time kept slipping through Yuri's fingers no matter how much she tried to grasp it
MARK AND YURI
Mark and Yuri had a supposedly one sided love kind of relationship. Mark is said to like Yuri romantically, but what i wanted to express with this line is the fact that Mark does like Yuri, yes, but not because he wanted to, just because he has to. To him, it's the right thing to like her. Whereas Yuri and Jeno liked eachother because they wanted to, not because it was right to.
CHAPTER TITLES
Every chapter title in Midnight Stories (eg. Chapter 5 - Pumpkins and Mice) are not made up by myself, in fact, each title is a track song from Cinderella. Eg A Secret Garden is Cinderella The Movie's 19th TrackQUOTE
