Chapter 9 - Crush?

Minotaur: "So I heard the young female warriors are returning today."

Goblin: "Maybe this means the princess will make some new friends."

Quilly: "I hope so. She's trouble when she's lonely."

I was in my cell playing cards with the teddy demons when I turned to see a girl on the other side of the bars, staring in awe at me.

Y/N: "Hm?"

Harpy: "Oh, hi princess! My name's Harpy. My unit just came back today. And... I just adore human culture. I would love to talk to you!"

I put down my cards and stood up.

Y/N: "Really?"

Harpy: "Oh man, you're talking to me!!"

Y/N: "Well, that's what you wanted right?"

Harpy: "Yeah, I just didn't think you would... because I'm a demon..."

Y/N: "I don't mind. You seem friendly."

She smiled.

Harpy: "Well then, will you please have girl talk with me?!?"

Y/N: "Sure."

I took out my keys and opened my cell door.

Y/N: "Come on in."

Harpy: "Where did you get those...? Aren't you a prisoner?"

Y/N: "My little secret."

We sat on my bed.

Y/N: "So what do you want to talk about?"

Harpy: "Well, I know a little about how human girls talk. Ahem... so, hey girl hey. What's good? Do you have a crush on anyone?"

I laughed.

Harpy: "What? Did I do it wrong?"

Y/N: "No, no, it was... good effort."

Harpy: "So, which is it? A hero back home? *Gasp* Or a forbidden demon love?!"

Demon King: "I see you two are getting along."

Harpy: "Demon King!"

Demon King: "That's me. You girls having fun?"

Harpy: "Yeah! We're having girl talk!"

Demon King: "Hehe, cute. Well, see you later."

When Harpy looked back at me, she noticed my cheeks had turned red. She gasped as she put two and two together.

Harpy: "Forbidden demon love..."

Y/N: "W-what?"

Harpy: "Do you have a crush on the demon king?! You can trust me!"

Y/N: "Hey, keep your voice down! I... don't know... I've had mixed feelings about him since he abducted me. Although he keeps me in this castle as a prisoner... he's also been very kind to me... he even saved my life once..."

She was smiling wide at me the whole time.

Y/N: "But he's the demon king, and I'm a human princess... plus... I'm engaged..."

She gasped.

Harpy: "You didn't mention that!"

Y/N: "I'm engaged... not by choice."

Harpy: "I see... an arranged marriage."

I nodded.

Harpy: "Do you love your fiancé?"

Y/N: "Not at all..."

She took my hands in hers.

Harpy: "You should confess your love to the demon king!"

Y/N: "Say wha?!"

Harpy: "Just forget about your arranged marriage and tell the demon king how you feel!"

Y/N: "Uh- I... uhm..."

Harpy: "Please... just think about it."

Y/N: "O-okay..."

Later that night...

Demon King's Thoughts: 'Princess Y/N of Merrispark... I've become... rather fond of her... but she sees me as naught but the horrid demon who kidnapped her.'

Cleric: "Sire?"

Demon King: "Uh- yes?"

Cleric: "Are you alright, my liege? You seem distracted this evening."

Demon King: "I was just... thinking about... uhm- our plans with the hero!"

Big Big: "You're just as bad a liar as the princess."

His face went pink.

Demon King: "The princess..."

Big Big: "Oooh noo..."

Cleric: "You haven't..."

The demon king was sweating and backing up.

Demon King: "W-what do you mean?"

Cleric: "You've fallen in love with the princess, haven't you?!"

Demon King: "Whaaaat?! Pfft Nooo... She's my prisoner after all."

Big Big: "It's not unheard of for a prisoner to fall for their captor, or vice versa."

Demon King: "*fake yawn* Well, I'm really tired, it's been a long day. So, I'm gonna go to bed! Heh, good night!!"

He ran off.

Big Big: "He's definitely fallen in love with the princess."

Cleric: "Yep... what do we do?"

Big Big: "There's nothing we can do. He can't do anything about his feelings... and I sense he knows it."

Cleric: "Because of the hero being the princess' fiancé?"

Big Big: "Exactly..."
