First Feast

Nordica's POV

Mo'at has me lay down on my back. She exams me and lightly presses her hands to my stomach. "You are pregnant with two babies" she states.

"Twins? I was told only one" I tell her confused.

"Well your healers are wrong, you are to have two babies" she tells me with a smile. "Multiple birth is rare for our kind, but not unheard of" she states. "Is Jakesully the father?" she asks me.

"God no, he is the uncle" I tell her.

"Where is the father?" she asks me.

"Dead, I only just found out about the baby. Babies" I tell her as I fight back tears.

"Something feels unusual about your babies. They appear to be in the same sack" she tells me.

"Probably identical twins" I tell her. "On Earth there are two forms of twins. Fraternal or identical. Fraternal twins are result from the fertilization of two separate eggs with two different sperm during the same pregnancy. In contrast, identical twins are the result from the fertilization of a single egg by a single sperm, with the fertilized egg then splitting into two. As a result, identical twins share the same genomes and are always the same sex" I explain.

"That would explain it" she tells me with a smile. "You all appear in good health, they are strong" she states. I smile. "You must change clothes, then eat" she tells me.

"Of course" I tell her. She gets me some clothes. She goes outside to give me some privacy.

"What does your name mean?" she asks me curious.

"It means from the North" I tell her. As I remove my shoes and socks first. "Why?" I ask her curious as I remove my shirt.

"Just thinking of what to call you in Na'vi" she tells me. "How does Atiena sound?" she asks me. As I start to put on the Na'vi clothes she had provided.

"Beautiful" I tell her as I join her. "What does it me?" I ask her curious.

"You will find out in time" she tells me. "Come" she tells me. I do so and she leads me to where the clan is already gathered. Eating tonights feast. She leads me over to Eytukan and Tsu'tey. She sits down and I sit beside her.

"I see you" I tell Eytukan and Tsu'tey.

"Do you?" Eytukan asks me.

"In time I will" I state.

"What are you?" Tsu'tey asks me.

"I study plants, help them grow" I tell him.

"You can help others and me gather fruits, herbs, roots" Mo'at tells me.

"I look forward to learning from you" I tell her. As Jake appears with Neytiri. He looks very uncomfortable in his lion cloth. Well he will have to get used to it. Neytiri leads him through the crowd and I see him step on someones tail. And shake my head.

Mo'at offers me a leaf with some food on it. "Thank you" I say grateful as Neytiri made Jake sit down. She got him and herself some food. "Mo'at I know you wish to study us. But can I please have your word that my babies will be safe with the Omatikaya?" I ask her.

"Of course, we would never hurt a child" she assures me. She then starts to talk to the other two. I drown them out as I focus on my food. I am very hungry. When I finish, I yawn covering my mouth. "You are tired" Mo'at states and I nod my head.

She gets to her feet and gestures me to follow her. "See you back at base Jake" I tell him. Before leaving with her. She leads me to the sleeping level. I see some families nesting in groups on woven hammocks the size of trampolines. Single people sleeping in smaller ones.

"You shall sleep in Snonivi until you are further along. Then be given a swaynivi " she tells me. I nod my head in understanding. I gently lower myself into one. "Brush your fingers lightly on the edge and it will close around you. Like a protective cocoon" she explains. I do so and I start to drift off. "Sleep well Atiena" she tells me and I close my eyes.

I return to my human body and am surrounded by people. "Back off guys, give her some air" Norm demands. They back away. "You ok Nordica? Is your avatar safe?" he asks me concerned.

"I am fine and so is the avatar" I assure him. I then look at Nurse Joy. "Why didn't you tell me it is twins?" I ask her.

"I wanted to ease you into it, you have been through so much. I did not want to overwhelm you" she states. I nod my head in understanding, that is logical.

"Where's Jake?" Grace asks me.

"Probably still eating" I tell her. "You are not going to believe where we are" I state with a smile.

"He's coming out!" Max shouts and they all go gather around Jake's link pod. Except Norm, who helps me out of mine. As I am tired.

"Come on back, kid, that's it" Grace says as Jake wakes. "Damn, you were dug in like a tick" she states. "Are yours and Nordica's avatars safe?" she asks and I roll my eyes. I just told her mine was.

"Yeah, Doc and you are not going to believe where I am" Jake tells her with a huge grin.

"It's a long story and I am hungry. As well as tired" I state.

"Then lets get you both some food and you can tell us all about it" Max states. The others agree and we go to the mess hall. I let Jake tell most of the story as I ate. Only chipping in every now and then. Afterwards I return to my room and got ready for bed. And called it a night.
